Ervin Munir, Pure And Simple | Album Review

Returning with his second studio album “Pure and Simple” is Norfolk singer-songwriter Ervin Munir. Following the popularity of “Broken Compass,” this new album is a very potent work on love, grief, self-discovery.

The album is brimming with heartfelt lyrics and a rich, sincere sound that hits home. The album also features collaborations with musicians like Aeron Z Jones, who lends his skills on bass, electric, and slide guitar across several tracks. Adding to the album’s overall depth, Tina Blaber’s vocals shine on songs like King and Doors and she enhances the dynamic and eclectic tone.

With an amazing drum solo, the song “Felixstowe” on the CD captures the emotional weight of the whole work. Another favourite for me is the title tune, “Pure and Simple” which deftly stripped-down yet forcefully captures Ervin’s melodic core. Doors, with Ervin on piano and Blaber on backing vocals, presents a very intimate touch and highlights his artistic flexibility.

For those in search of an album to truly hits home, “Pure and Simple” is a must-listen. Ervin Munir has crafted a record that feels both intimate and grand.
