Scanning the Charts (2/9/22): Encanto continues to dominate on both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Hot 100.

usic chart analysis, here we come! Scanning the Charts is exactly what it says it is.  We peruse – scan – through the Billboard Charts and pick out eye-catching happenings. Scanning the Charts isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, we list 8 observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and 10- observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with Encanto continuing its dominance.

Billboard 200

Encanto spends a fourth week atop the Billboard 200. Not surprising, to be honest.

The Weeknd rebounds this week! Dawn FM ascends to its peak position, no. 2.  Notably, this marks the first time he’s outperformed the album that beat him for the no. 1 spot, DS4EVER by Gunna.  DS4EVER is ‘level pegging’ this week at no. 3.

The highest debut on the Billboard 200 arrives courtesy of Grateful Dead – surprising, right? Dave’s Picks, Volume 41: Baltimore Civic Center, Baltimore, MD – 5/26/77 bows at no. 13.

The second-highest debut on the Billboard 200 arrives courtesy of NLE Choppa. Me Vs. Me launches at no. 14.

Babyface Ray earns a top-40 debut with Face, which bows at no. 31.

Aaron Lewis is Frayed at Both Ends at no. 39.

Rick Ross returns to the Billboard 200.  Richer Than I Ever Been re-enters at no. 153.  Debuting modestly at no. 22, this reentry marks only the third week the album has charted!

After debuting at no. 28, iann dior sees On to Better Things slide to no. 166 in its second week.

Billboard Hot 100

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” spends a second week at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A second gem from Encanto, “Surface Pressure” performed by Jessica Darrow, ascends from no. 9 to no. 8 in its sixth week on the charts.  

Gucci Mane earns the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. “Rumors” featuring Lil Durk debuts at no. 51.

We get new music from The Chainsmokers! “High” bows at no. 57.

Benny the Butcher and J. Cole impact the Hot 100 at no. 72 with “Johnny P’s Caddy”.  

Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran arrive at no. 79 with “Peru.”

Ah, there’s new Miranda Lambert at no. 82 ( “If I Was a Cowboy”).

NLE Choppa brings “Shotta Flow 6” at no 86.  

XXXTENTACION debuts posthumously on the Hot 100 with “Vice City” at no. 89.

Megan Thee Stallion earns another entry on the Hot 100 as “Megan’s Piano” launches at no. 97.
