Progressive soul singer/songwriter EMAN8 (Brandyn Burnette) proves he’s an artist watch on the alluring, spiritually-tinged single, “Amen.”

It’s time you get to know EMAN8, aka Brandyn Burnette.  EMAN8 is a ‘progressive’ soul singer/songwriter and producer who grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.  A self-taught pianist, Burnette later attended NYU on a musical theater scholarship – that’s definitely an accomplishment.  The accomplishments of Burnette don’t stop there. Notably, he’s opened for the likes of John Mayer, Jon Bellion, and James Bay.  Burnette has released three EPs: Made of Dreams (2015), State I’m in (2016), and Feature Films (2017). The single at hand, “Amen,” is set to appear on his forthcoming, full-length, debut studio album, EMANATE.

“Amen” is a brilliant record.  It’s a slick blend of gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic.  Naturally, EMAN8 delivers lovely vocals, filled with plenty of soul as well as swagger. Amplifying a capable vocal performance is superb, sleek production work, comprised of drum programming, synths (particularly the brassy ones), and of course, keyboards. In addition to EMAN8’s own vocal prowess, he’s supported by choral backing vocals, giving “Amen” that gospel sensibility.  Also, worth noting are the rhythmic melodic lines which are perfect means to spit mad game like Burnette does.

Final Thoughts

If it wasn’t made crystal clear by the aforementioned paragraph, EMAN8 delivers big on “Amen.” It checks off all of the boxes that it should – songwriting, vocals, and production.  Hopefully, “Amen” is the catalyst for Burnette reaching that next level in his musical journey – that big-time ‘come up’ that he definitely deserves relative to his talent.  Make sure that “Amen” sits at the top of your playlist.
