3.5 out of 5 stars

Ellie Goulding delivers another well-rounded soundtrack single with “Still Falling for You” from forthcoming film Bridget Jones Baby.

Ellie Goulding has a knack for singles from soundtracks. In 2015, she nailed “Love Me Like You Do” from Fifty Shades of Grey.  In 2016, she delivers the single from Bridget Jones Baby, “Still Falling for You.” “Still Falling for You” is another winning performance from the pop/alternative pop star.

Light production touches – electronic and pop – characterize “Still Falling For You.”  Clear, there is an 80s pop vibe in the air. Ultimately, there’s nothing too crazy about the backdrop, at least until the end. The record takes its time. Even after taking a more than a minute to simmer and establish itself, it’s not incredible overt. Subtlety and poise are the M.O.

Over its course, Goulding sounds terrific. Her vocals are clear as a bell. Following the aforementioned subtlety on the first verse, the second verse adds some vocal harmonization. This is a welcome touch that works quite effectively. By circa the 2:40, “Still Falling For You” has fully percolated…finally.  It takes a while, but the arrival point is grand.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Still Falling for You” is superbly executed. It doesn’t reveal all of its card from the jump, but the ending and overall results are well worth it. Clear vocals by Goulding are perfectly suited to this track. All in all, it’s pleasant, enjoyable, and well-rounded.
