Pop singer Elley Duhé shows on enjoyable single “WAY DOWN LOW” that she’s willing to do whatever to conquer love, even in the worst of times.
After appearing alongside Zedd on the awesome “Happy Now”, pop singer Elley Duhé returns with her own solo single, “WAY DOWN LOW.” The results are positive for the southern born and bred musician. The premise of “WAY DOWN LOW?” Making it through and conquering love, even in the worst of times. Definitely relatable stuff there Elley.
“WAY DOWN LOW” features glorious, smooth synths. These are contrasted with a busier, ‘hyper-rhythmic’ beat. The production is solid – nothing too crazy but ultimately compelling. Duhé serves up assertive lead vocals. She has a distinct, powerful set of pipes on her hands. Arguably the best section of the song is the pre-chorus, which is catchy and incredibly effective.
I love the contrast with the percussion resting here, returning on the chorus. Also, the lyrics perfectly support the aforementioned premise of conquering love.
“And we all half alive, half alive I’ll go to war, baby I’ll go to war for you Just come back to life, back to life We will survive We gonna see this through.”
The following chorus is gimmicky and repetitive, but effective overall. Arguably the weakest point are the nonsensical syllables that are tagged onto the end. Still, that ‘goes with the territory’ of pop music, and who would deny Duhé a little fun through the fight for love?
“Even when we’re way down, way down low We dream, yeah We dream on up When we’re way down, way down low The stars light a new hope in us... (nonsensical syllables follow).”
The bridge has similar production/sound to the pre-chorus, but offers contrasting lyrics.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “WAY DOWN LOW” is enjoyable and well executed. Perhaps the only reason it doesn’t get a slightly higher score is because it feels like it’s just missing that little extra something, something. Still that’s no deal breaker. This is one worthy of many spins.
