Grammy-winning pop superstar Ed Sheeran, assisted by Grammy-nominated rap superstar Lil Baby, create a surefire vibe on the remix of β2 Step.β
The remixes keep on rolling out for Ed Sheeran. Since releasing
= (Equals) in 2021, the
Grammy-winner has been releasing remixes featuring big-name colleagues. For
β2 Step (Remix)β β a record about dancing with his woman β Sheeran enlists ubiquitous
Grammy-nominated rapper,
Lil Baby. Does this remix add to the original or take away from it? Read on and find out my thoughts.
Originally, when reviewing = (Equals), I asserted that that rapping Ed Sheeran was back on his BS on β2 Step.β That remains the case on the remix, which is the official single released from =. Like the original, Ed keeps it melodic in the first verse over the knocking semi-trap beat produced by
watt and
Louis Bell. He remains tuneful in the chorus, which is preceded by the pre-chorus and proceeded by the post-chorus. His second verse is replaced by Lil Baby, expectedly. Essentially, the rapper is βtrue to self,β compelling with his distinct flow. He keeps it clean for Ed as he addresses how he interacts with his shawty. He says it best himself: βI donβt see nobody in here but us, for real, for you Iβm blind / We go anywhere, donβt take much for us to catch a vibe.β Woo! From there, we get the chorus, which features some contributions from Lil Baby, and finally, the post-chorus which is all Ed.
Final Thoughts
All in all, β2 Step (Remix)β is an enjoyable pop joint. Is it the second coming? No. Is it the best song Ed Sheeran has ever released? Nope. That said, β2 Step (Remix)β is a vibe. The crowning achievement is the chorus. The vocal production is nice too. And, the Lil Baby flow β also, a vibe.
