In the 93rd edition of Bangerz N Bopz đ„ (2025), we break down âWhatcha Doingâ performed by Dua Lipa.
âBut if control is my religion / Then Iâm headinâ for collision,â Dua Lipa sings in the pre-chorus of âWhatcha Doingâ. She continues, âLost my 20/20 vision / Please.â Ooh-wee! What is happening, Dua Lipa? Thatâs exactly what she wants to know in the fifth track from her third studio album, Radical Optimism. She penned âWhatcha Doingâ with Caroline Ailin, Danny L Harle, Ali Tamposi, and last but not least, Kevin Parker, who produced it. Matters of the heart have our talented English Albanian pop singer/songwriter feeling some way about this boy! Admittedly, in the first verse, Dua, who enjoys control, asks, âAre you worried that I might find somethinâ wrong? / âCause Iâm worried that I wonât.â Oh, snap! Â The second verse is also interesting, where she sees a future between them, but âI canât shake the feelinâ that thereâs more to learn / In the time between.â
The chorus, the crĂšme de la crĂšme, is where she reveals how he is affecting and controlling her mind because heâs that special:
âWhatcha doinâ to me, baby?
Iâm scared to death that you might be the one to change me
Youâre in my head and now youâre cloudinâ my decisions
Got me headinâ for collision
Whatcha doinâ to me, baby?
Oh, whatcha doinâ to me?â
Dua Lipa sounds amazing from start to finish; her voice is stunning. The production and sound are another selling point. Itâs colorful and sleek pop at its finest. âWhatcha Doingâ thrives thanks to its groove, relatable theme and lyrics, and the excellence of Dua Lipa. Revisiting Radical Optimism, itâs a shame the album didnât hit the same way as her sophomore album, Future Nostalgia. There are plenty of well-rounded pop bops.
