Dua Lipa, "Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix" (Ft. Madonna & Missy Elliott) [Photo credit: Warner]Grammy-winner Dua Lipa enlists fellow Grammy-winners Madonna and Missy Elliott for the hella groovy “Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix).”

Without a doubt, Future Nostalgia is one of the best albums of 2020.  Dua Lipa absolutely killed it.  One of my personal favorite songs from Future Nostalgia was “Levitating”, which I felt was underrated compared to the other cuts.  I was pleasantly surprised to see it released as a single, albeit as “Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix).” As the remixed title suggests, Madonna appears which is big.  Furthermore, Missy Elliott also brings some heat to the track.

While the original version of “Levitating” is dance-driven, the remix takes the electro-/dance vibes to the next level. Furthermore, the pace is quicker on the remix; the original lays back a bit more.  You could argue that by accelerating the tempo and changing the groove, “Levitating” becomes even more danceable.  From a production standpoint, this KOZ/Stuart Price production remains sleek.

Madonna makes some contributions throughout the song, with her biggest arriving on the second verse. Madge goes on to appear on the second pre-chorus as well. As for Missy Elliott, she contrasts both Dua Lipa (first verse) and Madonna with her vintage rap chops intact.  Ultimately, all three artists have something valuable worth ‘bringing to the table’ on this remix.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix)” is another success for Dua Lipa – she can do little wrong where Future Nostalgia is concerned.  As pumped as I am to hear Madonna and Missy Elliott on the track, I do actually prefer the original, which is more soulful.  Still, I appreciate the more club-oriented nature of this remix. This version still has plenty of character, even if it’s different character from the original.
