ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉,  and 8 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Drake spending a second consecutive week atop the Billboard 200.

Billboard 200 📉 

💭 🎙 Drake tops the Billboard 200 for the second consecutive week with 💿 Certified Lover.  Sure, his numbers aren’t as robust as week one, but 236,000 units is still #winning.

💭 After debuting at no. 1 two weeks ago, and slipping to no. 2 last week, 🎙 Kanye West sees 💿 Donda stay put at no. 2.

💭 🎙 Kacey Musgraves earns the highest debut on the Billboard 200. 💿 Star-Crossed debuts respectably at no. 3.

💭 Also launching high on the Billboard 200 is rapper 🎙 Baby Keem with 💿 The Melodic Blue (no. 5).

💭 🎙 J Balvin misses the top 10. 💿 Jose debuts at no. 12.

💭 🎙 Aaliyah sees her self-titled album re-enter the Billboard 200 at no. 13.  Worth noting, 💿 Aaliyah peaked at no. 1 years back.

💭 🎙 Hayley Williams grabs a spot on the Billboard 200 with 💿 Flowers for Vases / Descansos. Flowers for Vases / Descansos, originally released in February 2021, debuts at no. 189.

💭 Country singer 🎙 Mitchell Tenpenny barely debuts on the Billboard 200. 💿 Midtown Diaries launches at no. 191.

💭 After a hiatus from the top spot, 🎙 The Kid LAROI and 🎙 Justin Bieber return to no. 1 with 🎵 “Stay”.

💭 Following a no. 1 debut last week, 🎵 “Way 2 Sexy” by 🎙 Drake featuring 🎙 Future and 🎙 Young Thug slips to no. 2.  Too much sexiness?

💭 🎙 Walker Hayes earns his highest peak on the Hot 100 as 🎵 “Fancy Like” ascends to no. 5.

💭 🎙 Ed Sheeran debuts at no. 16 with 🎵 “Shivers”, the third single from his forthcoming album, =.

💭 🎙 Chlöe debuts at no. 28 with her risqué, sexy single, 🎵 “Have Mercy”.
