Drake is fierce as ever on “Sneakin’,” another single from his upcoming project, ‘More Life’. He enlists up-and-coming rapper 21 Savage to assist.
Drake just won’t stop. The rapper/singer has a new project on the horizon, More Life. “Sneakin’” arrived at the same time as “Fake Love” and prior to “Two Birds, One Stone.” Like the other two singles, the Canadian superstar is truly “Charged Up.”
“Sneakin’” features malicious sounding production work. This clearly contrasts the sound of both “Fake Love” and “Two Birds, One Stone.” Like “Two Birds” however, Drake is rapping – no pop-rap or singing whatsoever. This, hence, serves as another contrast to “Fake Love.” Drizzy goes hard on the hook:
“N*ggas keep reaching and dissin’ / can’t afford mistakes, not on this end / make me call my bros for assistance / you gon’ make me call my bros for assistance / n*ggas keep reachin’ and dissin’ / put me in a f*cked up position / you gon make me call my bros, for assistance / make me call my bro.”
21 Savage raps the second verse. The sound is edgy, drenched in machismo.
“21 Savage aka the Reaper, huh / pussy n*ggas gettin’ shot for all that reachin’ huh.”
Essentially, Drake asserts that he has to continue to be the best in the game. If he isn’t it opens up the door for other MCs to try to bring him down. He wants to keep them “reachin’” with disses that they can’t substantiate themselves.
Final Thoughts
“Sneakin’” is honest, well-produced, and features solid rhymes by Drake. Similarly to “Two Birds, One Stone,” it’s nice to hear him hang up the pop raps in favor of hard-hitting rhymes. Up-and-comer 21 Savage gives a solid guest appearance by
