Doja Cat, Planet Her [📷: Kemosabe / RCA]Grammy-nominated pop artist Doja Cat shines on the sexual, sleekly produced second advance single from Planet Her, “Need to Know.”

Well, it’s safe to say that 🎙 Doja Cat has totally blown up over the past couple of years.  Who would’ve known that the 🎵 “Go to Town” would go on to be nominated for 🏆 Grammys and make such a name for herself.   Well, that’s exactly what she’s done, and it sets up her third studio album, 💿 Planet Her, to be huge.  With 🎵 “Kiss Me More” already proving to be another success for Doja in advance of Planet Her, her second promo single, 🎵 “Need to Know” has a similar effect.  Folks, Doja is ready to dominate pop in 2021, period.

On “Need to Know,” Doja Cat is accompanied by sleek, modern production work courtesy of 🎛 Dr. Luke.  This smooth, fresh backdrop certainly plays to her strengths, which lie in the realm of pop, R&B and melodic rap. Here, Doja gives us a little bit of everything, singing more often than not, but dropping some un-pitched rhymes on the second verse.  The theme and topic of choice?  Why, sex of course!  What really sells this sexed-up joint is her big personality, and as we all know, size matters (“What’s your size? (Size) / Add, subtract, divide (‘Vide)”).  The crème de la crème – the crowning achievement – is the memorable chorus:

“Wanna know what it’s like
Baby, show me what it’s like
I don’t really got no type
I just wanna fuck all night.”

Final Thoughts 💭

Doja Cat is on an upward trajectory, period.  “Need to Know” finds the pop artist thriving with her cutting edge, unapologetic approach.  Quite talented, I’d argue it’s the personality that really sells the music.  Of course, a catchy chorus and great production don’t hurt either.
