Hitmaking rapper/singer Doja Cat drops another bop with the sensually charged “Kiss Me More” featuring R&B standout, SZA.
It’s gotta feel good to be Doja Cat. Truthfully, the rapper, singer, and songwriter is a walking BOP. It’s true! After a successful couple of years, particularly with her sophomore album,
Hot Pink, she’s back with another hit,
“Kiss Me More”. While she’s fully capable of ‘bringing the heat’ on her own, she taps a fellow Grammy nominee,
SZA for the assist. Ultimately, “Kiss Me More” screams HIT.
The first time you hear “Kiss Me More,” it’s infectious to the nth degree. There are a number of reasons why this joint is so successful. For one, it goes to the track’s underpinnings – the harmonic progression used is pretty sweet. Furthermore, the lush production work awesomely supports sweet vocal performances by both Doja Cat and later, SZA. Worth noting, an Olivia Newton-John classic,
“Physical”, further fuels that fire.
As usual, Doja Cat both sings and rap, showing off her incredible versatility. I love the breathy nature of some of her vocals, further amplifying the sensual aesthetic of this record. She brings the heat on her rhymes remaining aggressive and sexed-up (“I, I feel like fuckin’ somethin’” and “Niggas wishin’ that the pussy was a kissin’ booth”). Furthermore, she remains playful. As for SZA, she brings vocal contrast on the third verse, matching the aggressiveness of Doja.
“Fuckin’ with you feel like jail, nigga I can’t even exhale, nigga Pussy like holy grail, you know that You gon’ make me need bail, you know that.”
Final Thoughts
Once more, Doja Cat has constructed another surefire bop – it screams no. 1 hit. “Kiss Me More” may not change your life or the game, but it’s both enjoyable and incredibly infectious. It’s awesome that Doja tapped SZA for the assist – she provides a nice lift. Even so, Doja holds it down and shines like the star that she is.
