Doja Cat, "Bottom Bitch" [Photo Credits: Kemosabe / RCA]The always risqué, unapologetic rapper/singer Doja Cat delivers an entertaining, surefire blast with her blink-182 sampling gem, “Bottom Bitch.”

Since releasing her debut album, Amala (“Go to Town”), in 2018, Doja Cat has remained busy, dropping numerous singles in 2019.  She definitely raises eyebrows with “Bottom Bitch,” which she co-wrote and co-produced with Yeti Beats. Notably, Blink-182 receives co-writing credits (Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker).  Thanks to a sample of the blink-182 classic, “What’s My Age Again?” Given the fact that “Bottom Bitch” (it has quite the ring, doesn’t it?) is moderately slow, the tempo of the sample was reduced.

As the title suggests, the lyrics are pretty aggressive and unapologetic.  Interestingly, Doja Cat references pimping at the beginning as she sings the chorus.  This is where bottom bitch comes into play initially:

“Ooh, that’s my trick
I’m her pimp
She my flip
Ooh, don’t forget
That’s my trick
She’s my bottom bitch…”

On the verses, she’s equally ‘left of center,’ maintaining toughness and being utterly unapologetic.  “She just like a pro / She just wanna blow up / If you’re talkin’ shit / Wipe your spit off my nuts,” she sings. While there is more than its fair share of sexual innuendo and sexual references, this outlandish cut feels more like a truly committed friendship than say a relationship.  The second verse continues to find Doja Cat elevating her ‘bottom bitch’ on a pedestal.  Stepping away from the song itself, the music video is just as entertaining, with Doja Cat and her crew having an absolute blast, skating, egging cars, and being irresponsible AF.  That said, just like the song itself, it’s fun to the nth degree.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Bottom Bitch” is a blast to listen to, not to mention view the accompanying music video.  It’s raunchy mind you but endearing at the same time.  The use of the blink-182 sample works well for Doja Cat, and while there’s ample autotune, it works for this particular joint.  “Bottom Bitch” = Success.
