“Boss Bitch” from Birds of Prey: The Album, won’t change your life, but give Doja Cat credit for creating a vibe, bringing ‘that attitude.’
Doja Cat never seems to lack confidence – UNDERSTATEMENT. That’s been evident on her two studio albums, Amala (2018) and more recently, Hot Pink (2019). Once more, the “Juicy” R&B/hip-hop artist is confident AF. Case in point, “Boss Bitch,” from the Birds of Prey: The Album that accompanies the film, Birds of Prey. An example of the confidence: “First thing a girl did was a bop,” Doja asserts on the first verse, continuing, “I’m the whole damn cake and the cherry on top.”
Honestly, the totality of “Boss Bitch” is that confident, even with a brief runtime of two-minutes and some change. Doja Cat exhibits an electrifying, energetic flow, exhibiting her usual unapologetic side. She flexes hard, and even if the substance is questionable, she makes her point loud and clear, particularly on the chorus that highlights the fact that she’s the boss bitch:
“I’m a bitch, I’m a boss I’m a bitch and a boss and my shine like gloss.”
Moving beyond the lyrics, the production (Imad Royal and Sky Adams) is heavy on a percussive groove and synths. Even though this is a hip-hop cut, it has an electronic sensibility, at least regarding the musical palette. Of course, Doja Cat paints it well, or at the minimum, aggressively and explicitly.
Final Thoughts
Will “Boss Bitch” by Doja Cat change your life? No. Is it an entertaining single from Birds of Prey: The Album? By all means. Doja is true to self, she’s backed by unique production work, and her attitude is certainly one of the best attributes – it just might tip the scale in her favor.
