DJ Khaled works his magic once more on the summer anthem “No Brainer,” featuring Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, and Quavo.
DJ Khaled taps Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, and Quavo for his new single, “No Brainer”. If the cast seems familiar, it’s because it’s the same cast he had for his 2017 no. 1 from Grateful, “I’m the One”. The only difference? The absence of Lil Wayne. Expectedly, “No Brainer” commences with a cliché intro by DJ Khaled: “We the Best Music! / Another one! / DJ Khaled!” Yeah, yeah, yeah – been there, done that. “No Brainer” is a moderately-paced, feel-good track that features bright, major-key production.
Justin Bieber energetically sings the chorus, again, a reprisal of his role on “I’m the One.” Arguably, his voice actually sounds better here. His tone is clear, while his soulful runs stand out. The chorus trends on the wordy side, but it’s both enjoyable and effective.
“You stick out of the crowd, baby it’s a no-brainer / It ain’t that third to choose / Him or me, be for real, baby, it’s a no-brainer / You got your mind unloose / Go hard and watch the sun rise / One night’ll change your whole life / Pop the top, drop-top, baby, it’s a no-brainer…”
Quavo raps (pop-raps) the first verse, spitting about the drop top, dabbling in innuendo, and ultimately, discussing how awesome his girl is. Chance the Rapper takes the second verse, delivering some truly memorable bars including “And I keep it Ben Franklin, I’m not gon’ change.” Also, there’s, “She told me that she love that I make music for God / I told her I would love to see that booty applaud.” Chance, Chance, Chance! Justin Bieber sings the third verse, talking about her beauty and her soul. He concludes the verse singing, “Breakin’ all the rules (oh-oh) / So above the law (so above the law) / I’ll be your excuse (damn right) / Uh, and you go wrong, no.” Expectedly, DJ Khaled serves up the outro: “It’s we the best music…/ It’s father of Asahd / Another one.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “No Brainer” gives DJ Khaled ‘another one’ – another hit that is. This record is star-studded and enjoyable without question. Does the Asahd’s father serve up anything brand-new or game changing? Nope, but “No Brainer” is the perfect, feel-good, summer song.
