Dixon Dallas, an alter-ego of musician Jake Hill, is back with another gay, country smash in “Sleeping All Alone.”
“My boyfriend said that he don’t love me anymore,” country singer Dixon Dallas asserts in the first verse of his third single of 2023,
“Sleeping All Alone”. Sad – OH, the plight of love
! He continues singing in the chorus, “Damn, I messed this up again, and now he’s headed for the door.” Clearly, Dallas is gay, something firmly established on the preceding single,
“Good Lookin’” (do straight men mention bussy?). Of course, Dixon Dallas is a countrified, gay alter-ego of
iamjakehill (Jake Hill) who has proven himself to be a versatile, stylistically restless musician. Interestingly, “Sleeping All Alone” finds his alter-ego, Dixon, covering a song from previous year, which was from a heterosexual perspective.

“Good Lookin’” was progressive for country music, a genre known for being more conservative and not particularly queer. “Sleeping All Alone” feels like a tamer offering from Dallas, fitting a more traditional country billing, just adding the same-sex perspective. Even as Dixon sings about his boyfriend, the feel is no different than a heterosexual relationship. Moments like, “I don’t wanna sleep unless you’re dreaming right here next to me / I give you everything I can, you gave me peace and clarity,” is very gender neutral. Dixon’s voice sounds incredible – the tone is robust, and the nuance and twang stand out.
The production is another selling point, idiomatic of a country song you’d hear on a country radio station or playlist. All told, Dixon Dallas is amazing – a great alias from Jake Hill. While
“Good Lookin’” is the song to beat,
“Sleeping All Alone” is another fabulous, gay country song that open-minded folks won’t be able to resist.
