Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike tap Paris Hilton for a totally entertaining, novel, and attitude-laden single, “Best Friend’s Ass.”
“Walk in the VIP, don’t need no drink tickets, buddy / I got money, milk and honey / All my bitches actin’ funny.” Any time that profanity graces a song title, it naturally piques people’s interest. That’s the case with “Best Friend’s Ass,” a collaboration between Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and an unexpected surprise, Paris Hilton. Obviously, the word ‘ass’ isn’t going to totally break the censors, but Hilton clearly isn’t singing about the animal. And focusing on her as opposed to her ‘potty mouth,’ did we really expect to hear from her in a musical capacity again? Paris arrived more than a decade ago (2006).
As the title suggests, “Best Friend’s Ass” is chocked to the brim with attitude. The production is minimalist, characterized by its throwback house-styled beat and synth. As sleek as the supporting backdrop is by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and AO Beats, it is Paris Hilton who steals the show. Yeah, never thought I’d be saying that! The vocals by Hilton are perfectly suited for this feisty joint. Instead of singing, she delivers playful, chanted, quasi-rapped vocals. Her delivery can also be described as bratty and ‘boujee’ which are selling points in this context. The crowning achievement? The chorus by all means!
“But all I see is fuckboys everywhere tryna make a pass
B-b-but I can’t stop lookin’ at my best friend’s ass
Fu-fu-fuckboys everywhere tryna make a pass
But I can’t stop lookin’ at my best friend’s ass.”
Final Thoughts
So, how does “Best Friend’s Ass” stack up? Depends on who you are and perhaps even your feelings about Paris Hilton – just keeping it 100. The song is tongue-n-cheek to the nth degree, but as a novel cut, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike put together a hit. It’s not transcendent – the sheer appearance of Hilton made that crystal clear – but definitely entertaining if nothing else.
