Incredibly honest and relatable, Demi Lovato shows vulnerability and the ability to overcome adversity on the powerful “Still Have Me.”
Demi Lovato has been through plenty of turbulence as a celebrity. Yes, she’s been in the business for the majority of her life, which is a blessing, but she’s also experienced her fair share of adversity. Some of the adversities that have affected Lovato greatly include losing her sobriety and more recently, a broken engagement with actor Max Ehrich. Her latest single, “Still Have Me,” reflects both happenings, most notably capturing the end of the suspect relationship.
Lovato’s bread is definitely buttered with powerful balladry, PERIOD. Demi has an amazing, expressive, and nuanced voice that can sing just about anything. On “Still Have Me,” she begins by showing more poise and restraint (verses), building up to a grandiose, triumphant, overcoming refrain. Essentially, she’s been broken down and has ‘gone through the ringer.’ Even so, she’s going through rehabilitation (emotionally) to reclaim herself despite all the adversity thrown at her. This is best represented by the chorus, which is the epic centerpiece of this ballad:
“I don’t have much but at least I still have me (I still have me) And that’s all I need So, take my faith but at least I still believe (I still believe) And that’s all I need I don’t have much but at least I still have me.”
Final Thoughts
Demi Lovato is awesome. It’s sad that she has had to experience such hardship, even considering how successful that she’s been as an actress, musician, and celebrity in general. Despite everything that she’s gone through, I love how she is so outspoken and unafraid to be vulnerable through her music. “Still Have Me” is another phenomenal example of this, following “Anyone” and “I Love Me”. Can’t wait until the new Demi Lovato album arrives!
