In the 27^th edition of Lit Music That Lifts, we’re uplifted by renowned gospel singer Daryl Coley performing, “Blessed Assurance.”

The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 27^th edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2022), we highlight 🎵 “Blessed Assurance” as performed by renowned gospel singer, 🎙 Daryl Coley.

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine / Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!” Sometimes, people underrated the power of traditional hymns.  They totally shouldn’t.  🎵 “Blessed Assurance”, first published in 1873, ranks among the most beautiful, poetic, and inspired hymns of them all. Those marvelous, thoughtful, and spiritual lyrics were penned by blind hymnist,  🎼 ✍ Fanny J Crosby.  The music, in all its glory, was composed by 🎼 ✍ Phoebe Knapp. The result is a Christian classic that testifies to God’s goodness and mercy.  Because of His mercifulness, the praise is endless, best expressed in the epic refrain:

“This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior, all the day long.

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior, all the day long.”

Many anointed musicians have performed this classic hymn tune.  The late, great 🎙 Daryl Coley shines on his rendition from the 1990s. Appearing on his 1994 album, 💿 In My Dreams, “Blessed Assurance” is the fifth track.  Beginning softly and reverently, Colely doesn’t reveal all of his cards early.  The first verse finds him residing in his lower register.  Beginning in the second verse, Coley begins to pack more of a punch, including ascending an octave higher, showing off a commanding upper register.  His authenticity is never in question, particularly in the refrain where his vocals are nothing short of angelic.  Furthermore, Coley gets support from an anointed choir, further illustrating God’s greatness and celebrating it.  Even as “Blessed Assurance” is 150 years old (the Coley version is approaching 30 years), it remains timeless.  It inspires and uplifts generation after generation.
