3 out of 5 stars

Up-and-coming teen-pop artist Daniel Skye woos the ladies on enjoyable new single, “No Party.”

Who is Daniel Skye? Daniel Skye is a 16-year old up-and-coming pop star.  Naturally, being 16, his fan base consists of teens and pre-teens. In essence, Skye appeals to tween girls.  On his new single “No Party,” he undoubtedly woos the ladies:

“But girl without you it’s no party, eh, eh, eh.”

“No Party” initiates with synths, typical of the urban-pop sound. Further strengthening the production work is slick drum programming, at time incorporating trap cues. Skye sings in his lower register during the first half of the verse, a nice look for this song.  While his lower register is a pro, naturally Skye sounds incredibly youthful. His voice will continue to mature with age.

The chorus amplifies the swag with slang, another dominant feature of contemporary pop.  Repetition rears its head on the aforementioned chorus.  Prior to that, a catchy, smoothly executed pre-chorus sets up that hard-hitting chorus:

“So after we dance / that’s when we get started / you know we got plans / if I’m being honest.”

The bridge contrasts both chorus and bridge. Ultimately, it’s nice change of pace, but not too far-fetched from the rest of “No Party.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Daniel Skye has a good thing going on “No Party.” It’s by no means the second coming of pop, but Skye has a solid voice and the material itself is none too shabby. Certainly “No Party” and Skye himself appeals to a particular niche (teen girls), but his potential is showcased here without question. Likely, he’ll be an artist who grows “stronger with time.”
