Redemption is difficult to attain.  Grammy-nominated rapper DaBaby is attempting redemption – resurrecting his career following self-inflicted controversy.  Is his brief, sub-two-minute single, “WONDER WOMAN” the answer reignite the flame? Honestly, no, it’s not. “WONDER WOMAN” features a hard-nosed, minor-key backdrop produced by Sean Da Firzt and KayoTheWizard. The minimalist, synth-driven instrumental is fine, though not brand-new or innovative.

Like the instrumental, albeit it familiar and ‘tried and true,’ the rapper doesn’t do or say anything to change the trajectory.  The lyrics are sex-driven, particularly in the chorus: “I just know that you a freak / I wonder how she act when I’m in that pussy (Act) / I wonder how she act / Yeah, I wonder how she act.” Been there, done that, basically. Furthermore, he doesn’t say anything substantial in the verses.  His flow, a selling point, has its moments, but the song feels basic.

“Soon as I seen her, like ain’t no way

Went and got her number from her

Bitch, guess what? Letting you slide got me fucked up

Smooth ass skin and her teeth ain’t fucked

Pretty ass face, don’t need no butt but I’ll take some.”

Yeah… Notably, claps appear in the instrumental following references to her butt… I’ll leave it at that all.  Ultimately, “WONDER WOMAN” is one dimensional. It’s okay, but not game changing.
