Breakthrough rapper DaBaby shows off his compelling flow, potent rhymes, and a memorable hook over banging production on his enjoyable single, “INTRO.”
2019 has been quite the year for rapper DaBaby. Sure, he didn’t just show up on the rap scene all of a sudden, but 2019 can be described as his breakout, breakthrough year. Why? Well, his album, Baby on Baby debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 and has performed respectably. Furthermore, the collaborations with other artists keep on coming for the artist – he’s making paper. Single “INTRO,” attached to a forthcoming project, is proof why he’s ‘came up’ so much in 2019.
“INTRO” checks off a number of boxes, hence, why it is a successful single for DaBaby. First and foremost, his flow is quite appealing. He has a deeper, ‘bassy’ voice that instantly stands out – it sounds quite commanding and quite masculine, regardless what he raps. A flow is a pro, but the thing that elevates the flow to the next level are rhymes that are ‘on-point,’ Here on “INTRO,” he raps about adversity, coming up, family, and a host of personal matters. Because he isn’t merely content to regurgitate about matters of drip, but actually gives us more meaningful lines like “My mama stood up in the chair, took it like a G when she had cancer,” “INTRO” is more intriguing.
Beyond the aforementioned pros, DaBaby also gives us a great chorus, which steps away from the “shit on [his] mind,” and some of the personal matters as well:
“If I love you, then I need ya I fuck with you like Martin fuck with Gina We family like we Venus and Serena Let's go get married like we thank God and Kanisha Don’t give a fuck about the world, just ‘bout my people I don’t care what the fuck they told you, we ain’t equal Niggas ain’t cut from the same cloth, these niggas see-through And I be too busy doin’ me to see what he do, nigga.”
Adding to the allure of “INTRO” is banging production work, thanks to DJ Kid.
Final Thoughts
Da Baby is killing it right now, and “INTRO” is a perfect example. The flow is tight, the rhymes are potent, the production bangs, and the chorus is pretty sweet too. “INTRO” probably won’t change your world or your life, but it shows exactly why DaBaby keeps getting phone calls for features, not to mention those checks.
