Cute | 3 or 4 BOPS

In the 25^th edition of 3 or 4 BOPS (2022), we select awesome songs that are associated with being CUTE in some form or fashion.  

Ah, sometimes it’s better to keep things lite on the fat and calories 💪! That’s the goal of the miniature playlists gracing The Musical Hype.  On 3 or 4 BOPS, we select a topic or theme, choose three or four relevant songs, and provide a lit 🔥, electrifying blurb.  3 or 4 BOPS shouldn’t take too much time to consume – typically 5 minutes or less! In the 25^th edition of 3 or 4 BOPS (2022), we select awesome songs that are associated with being CUTE in some form or fashion.  Without further ado, let the BOPS begin!

1. The Other Realm, “All The Cute Boys Are Robots”

“All the cute boys are robots / None of these boys are real.” That’s a mic-drop moment right there! 🎙 The Other Realm definitely has a point.  If you’ve ever messed around with dating apps, you totally understand the sentiment he serves up on 🎵 “All The Cute Boys Are Robots”.  He continues in the chorus, “All the cute boys have metal hearts / That were never programmed to feel.” Also, true. While The Other Realm is pessimistic for much of the chorus, he looks on the bright side towards the end: “But I shouldn’t let it steal my joy / Cuz one of these days I’ll fall in love / And it won’t be with some stupid wind-up toy.” Another mic-drop moment that we should all be able to relate to – gay, straight, or otherwise!

The chorus of this pop track summarizes “Cute Boys Are Robots” perfectly.  But, the verses deserve to be highlighted as well. In the first verse, The Other Realm seems to be looking for validation from these lame-ass boys.  “My hair’s pulled back, my chest’s puffed out / And my eyes are open way too wide,” he sings, later adding, “I just want validation that random strangers think I’m cute / I’m trynna get over heartbreak…” Essentially, these lyrics provide more nuance to the reason for the pursuance, if you will. In the second verse, there’s more insight into the heartbreak, including his ex-boyfriend “Send me photos of his latest fuckboy mistakes / So I go online because I don’t go out /… Yeah, I go online because I want someone to kiss.” Of course, we ultimately know that cute boys are robots, and nothing going to come from a wind-up toy.  All told, 🎵 “All The Cute Boys Are Robots” is another wonderful addition to the LGBTQ+ musical catalog. The Other Realm nails it on this incredibly enjoyable and honest pop joint.

2. ROSALÍA, “CUUUUuuuuuute”

💿 MOTOMAMI • 🏷 Columbia • 📅 2022

🎵 “CUUUUuuuuuute” arrives as the 12^th track off of 💿 MOTOMAMI, the critically acclaimed, 2022 album by 🏆 Grammy-winning Latin standout, 🎙 ROSALÍA.  Although the cuteness only lasts for two and a half minutes, it’s potent AF!  One of the most ear-catching features of the record is the wild, hella percussive groove.  This occurs throughout much of the song which is a big-time win.

Another big-time win on “CUUUUuuuuuute” are the sexy, sultry vocals by ROSALÍA – ooh-la-la! She rides the marvelous production work exceptionally.  For most of the song, the listener hears a skeletal backdrop, which sounds like a mix of Latin, pop, and hip-hop.  There is, however, an unexpected change of pace that briefly transforms “CUUUUuuuuuute” into a ballad.  The big takeaway, however, is that this Latin banger kicks some serious ass. 

3. Boxter, “She’s So Fucking Cute”

Just before COVID-19 stifled the world, 🎙 Boxter shared with the world his feelings, to the tune of, 🎵 “She’s So Fucking Cute.”  Welp, with such a ‘fucking’ honest title (catch my drift), “She’s So Fucking Cute” doesn’t require a great deal of analysis.  Honestly, Boxter does a fabulous job on the memorable chorus expressing his desires for this cute, hot, and ravishing young lady.

“Yeah she’s so fucking cute, (yeah)

She making my mind so confused, (yeah)

I would go anywhere for you, (yeah)

I would go anywhere for you.”

Of course, there are two verses in addition to the cute chorus. Boxter spits in schmaltzy, melodic rap fashion, “We got shot by a fat baby called cupid / Yeah, yeah, I know that it sound stupid.”  Well, the first step is admitting to stupidity – or something like that! Anyways, Boxter informs us of the end of the relationship, stating, “I guess it’s time to turn to a new page / And find a new girl in a new way / It’s so hard to get you out my mind girl…” Yep, it’s a tried-and-true thing, Boxter – the plight of love! The agony! The heartbreak! The struggle to rebound! At least there’s some optimism on “She’s So Fucking Cute” somewhere: “A couple of lonely nights and a glass of red wine / The stars in the sky gonna see that I shine.” Eventually, Boxter will find another cute girl, if he hasn’t already – this isn’t a brand-new song after all 😜!

4. DRAM, “Cute”

💿 Big Baby DRAM • 🏷 EMPIRE / Atlantic • 📅 2016

“Even though it’s cliché I saw you on your Instagram and / I think you’re cute, I think you’re cute.” Thanks for the compliment 🎙 DRAM 😘! Yeah, yeah, I know – he wasn’t complimenting me! Still, I can have some fun with this 🎵 “Cute” song from his 2016 album, 💿 Big Baby DRAM, right? Right! After all, the man, admittedly, “Just had to park my car cause I was finna crash the whip / Scrolling through my feed I saw you just had post a pic.” Woo!

In the context of Big Baby DRAM, “Cute” keeps the momentum going. It’s corny and schmaltzy but irresistible.  “One thing ‘bout me, I am a foodie,” he sings in the second verse, continuing, “So, you know I’ll take you for a bite to eat because / I think you’re cute.” Woo! The chorus keeps things simple, backed by a hard beat: “I think you’re cute, I think you’re cute / oh yes I do, I think you’re cute.” Beyond the chorus and sound, the best moment of “Cute” comes during the bridge:

“Girl we need to go out on a date

We really do a little something

If it’s cool I’ll pick you up at 8

We can really do a little something

We can really do a little something baby

Looking at this pretty face, it drives me crazy.”

Cute song for a cute girl… or a cute boy!
