Corey Taylor rocks hard but keeps its very basic on “CMFT Must Be Stopped,” featuring rappers Kid Bookie and Tech N9ne.
Heed my advice – don’t think too long and hard about what ‘CMFT’ stands for in the song “CMFT Must Be Stopped.” Don’t waste your brain cells on that 💩 – keeping it 💯. The single arrives courtesy of Corey Taylor, best known as the front man of Slipknot. Well, the 46-year old musician is dropping a solo album, also called – wait for it – CMFT. Just put two-and-two together with the man’s initials, and an abbreviation for one of the foulest things you can say, and you’ll understand what the title means.
Of course, because “CMFT Must Be Stopped” isn’t deep whatsoever, it’s clear what Corey Taylor is going for. Following the intro, we get the chorus, which lays out this utterly dumb title:
“I don’t need nothin’ (Not a motherfuckin’ thing) I said, I don’t need nothin’ (Not a motherfuckin’ thing) I don’t need nothin’ (Not a motherfuckin’ thing) What’s my name (C-motherfuckin’-T).”
To quote Kanye West from his 2007 song, “Good Morning”, “Homie, this shit is basic.” “CMFT Must Be Stopped” is a basic hard-rock, nu-metal, rap-rock record. Honestly, this sound has actually sort of exited the mainstream, but Corey Taylor resurrects it. Beyond his explicit MF’ing chorus, he drops the first verse of this five-minute-plus joint. Then, he hands over the reins on the second and third verses to Kid Bookie and Tech N9ne. While I truly do find this record to be sort of ‘meh’ and basic, I highly enjoyed the energetic third verse by Tech N9ne, who rides rap-rock like a boss.
Final Thoughts
So, based on “CMFT Must Be Stopped,” should Corey Taylor be stopped? Nah, not necessarily. I’m sure many will be all-in on this, particularly with the cameo-heavy music video. That said, I’m personally not sure what to make of this – ha-ha. Is it a vibe? Yep – it rocks hard and the rapping against the rock backdrop is cool. Is it meaningful or necessary? Absolutely not. Again, look no further than the aforementioned Kanye West quote.
