Cordae, "The Parables" [📷 : Atlantic]Grammy-nominated rapper Cordae brings the heat on his second single of 2020, the aggressive, hard-hitting “The Parables.”

He may have dropped the ‘YBN’ but 🎙 Cordae is still the same standout, 🏆 Grammy-award nominated rapper (💿 The Lost Boy, 2019). He returns with his second new single in 2020, 🎵 “The Parables,” following “Gifted” (featuring 🎙 Roddy Ricch) as well as guest appearances on others’ singles. “The Parables” is set to appear on his forthcoming studio album, arriving in 2021.

So, for some context first. A parable, per Merriam-Webster, is “a usually short fictitious story that illustrates a moral attitude or a religious principle.” Fair enough.  In “The Parables,” Cordae imparts stories from his lifetime. We’ll assume, of course, his aren’t ‘fictitious’ but rather, ‘real talk.’ Even if one were to be skeptical of Cordae’s parables, he’s definitely assertive and passionate in his delivery.  “First and foremost, for every door that’s opened, a door close,” he spits on the second verse, continuing, “Beat a nigga, take his Bordeauxs, upgrade my wardrobe.” Yeah, doesn’t sound fake to me.  Add to his aggressive rhymes a banging backdrop courtesy of 🎙 Nami and 🎙 Cardiak, and “The Parables” comes over incredibly sweet. We even get a strong chorus too:

“I can tell you ‘bout the time was goin’ hard up in the paint
And I can tell you shit the other ni**as can’t, lemme tell you…”

Final Thoughts 💭

Need some parables in your life? Look no further than Cordae and “The Parables.” Honestly, there’s lots to dig about this joint.  Great rhymes, flow, and attitude from the rapper – check! Minor-key backdrop anchored by an impactful beat – check! Song with replay value – also, a big time check!
