‘Telepathic’ pop standout Conan Gray comes through strong on his slick, relatable love-oriented single, “Telepath.”

ometimes, you’ve got to dance out the pain! That’s exactly what 🎙 Conan Gray does on single, 🎵 “Telepath”. “Telepath” separates itself from other songs by the pop singer/songwriter, embracing synth- and electro-pop. Given his versatility, and those exceptional, exuberant, youthful pipes, “Telepath” is a roaring success.Besides the voice and the awesome production work by 🎛 ILYA, the theme and lyric bode well in Gray’s favor. It won’t shock you to hear those matters of the heart are in play. Yes, telepathy gets its moment on the marvelous chorus, but it’s secondary to love itself. On the first verse, Gray already knows his lover is going to break-up with him (“You say, ‘We’re breaking up,’ what a shame / Don’t even wanna stay friends / God”). On the second verse, his lover is back, giving mixed signals. On the pre-chorus, Gray nails it as he characterizes the person as predictable and unoriginal – burn! Of course, it’s the chorus that’s most ear-catching and explicitly references Conan’s telepathy!
“‘Cause I got a feelin’
You’re comin’ back just like you have in the past
Yeah, I got a feelin’
You’ll be sendin’ me trash you should’ve left in the drafts
Yeah, I got a feelin’
You’ll see me moving on and hate that I’m gone
I can see it, you’re comin’ back
Call me a telepath.”
Final Thoughts 💭
again, Conan Gray shines! As mentioned earlier, “Telepath” is a roaring success. I like the fact that Gray provided contrast to previous releases on this single. He sings well, delivers relatable theme and lyrics, and has a superb backdrop supporting him. His sophomore album should be a whole BOP!
