Conan Gray, “People Watching” [📷: Republic]Conan Gray shines on “People Watching,” his short but utterly sweet third single of 2021, set to appear on his sophomore album.

It’s always an exciting day when 🎙 Conan Gray drops new music! He impressed on his 2020 debut album, 💿 Kid Krow.  Post-Krow, Gray has managed to drop some phenomenal singles, set to appear on his forthcoming sophomore album. 🎵 “People Watching” builds anticipation for the new project, following home runs in 🎵 “Overdrive” and 🎵 “Astronomy”.

As always, Conan Gray sings beautifully on “People Watching” – his voice is amazing.  He has a tuneful, memorable melody to work with on the verses.  Furthermore, the songwriting is superb, finding Gray doing what he does best – telling stories:

“He’s making fun of how she acted around the holidays
She wears a ring, but they tell people that they’re not engaged.”

On the chorus, he elevates his game, singing with more conviction.  It makes sense that his passion is heightened, as he wants to be the one, one day, experiencing love and not merely people watching:

“But I wanna feel all that love and emotion
Be that attached to the person I’m holdin’
Someday I’ll be falling, without caution
But for now, I’m only people watchin’.”

Just crossing two-and-a-half-minutes, that’s ample time for Conan Gray to compel.

Final Thoughts 💭

Conan Gray has done it again – delivered a #winning single.  “People Watching” may be short, but it possesses everything you want in a well-rounded single.  Gray sings beautifully and the songwriting is strong, written in a narrative approach. The theme, summed up by the chorus of longing for love, is relatable.  Gray is on fire!
