As to be expected, “Memories” gives the talented Conan Gray another surefire bop in advance of his sophomore album, Superache.
“B
Initially, “Memories” develops slowly, musically, picking up steam as it progresses. Interestingly, as it progresses, “Memories” has some 🎙 Queen-like theatricality. No, I’m not equating Gray to 🎙 Freddie Mercury, but the dramatic nature and intriguing composition of the song gives me Queen vibes. Regarding Conan’s singing, it’s beautiful! Artistically, he exhibits ample authenticity. How so or why, you ask? Well, Gray is in a vulnerable spot, as the memories flood his mind regarding an ex-. Rather than blame the memories themselves, he tells his ex, who keeps coming back, in the chorus, “I wish that you would stay in my memories / But you show up today, just to ruin things / I wanna put you in the past ‘cause I’m traumatized.” Can’t blame Gray for giving his ex an ultimatum. Give him credit for delivering some of his strongest vocals to date and an epic chorus!
Final Thoughts 💭
The more and more I listen to Conan Gray, the more and more I fall in love… with his music of course. He is such a talented artist, one I would love to see receive far more recognition. Hopefully, “Memories” is a big-time catalyst for Superache, which seems like it will be an incredible album judging the advanced singles. As for “Memories,” well, it’s another bop for Conan!
