Con Funk Shun, Ffun | Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶

In the 118^th edition of Throwback Vibez (2025), we recollect and reflect on “Ffun” by fuck collective Con Funk Shun.

All genres of music are welcome. In the 118^th edition of Throwback Vibez 🕶️🎶 (2025), we recollect and reflect on “Ffun” performed by Con Funk Shun.

“I wanna thank you for your love so true / Your tender lovin’ keeps my mind on you.” Ooh-wee, Con Funk Shun! Please, continue! “I’ll pick you up and we’ll go out and dance / You kiss my lips, and we’ll have fun, fun, fun!” Indeed! “Ffun” is the fifth track from the R&B/funk group’s 1977, gold-certified album, Secrets. One of the best-known and most popular songs by the group peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. Fun fact: “Love’s Train”, a song that didn’t chart on the pop charts, has been streamed substantially more.  One of two Con Funk Shun lead vocalists, Michael Cooper, wrote “Ffun.” Skip Scarborough produced it.

“Ffun” is a vibe, period.  The music is electrifying, thanks to the funk sound palette. The rhythm section is locked in, led by the robust bass line, rhythmic guitar, and colorful keys.  The articulated horns add a mean bite, accentuating the instrumental. Notably, there is a terrific flute solo (Jerry Jones).  With ill riffs backing them, Con Funk Shun delivers an entertaining, infectious, and irresistible performance. Love is in the air, and the couple in the song is going to embrace it wholeheartedly ❤️! “Make it or break it, got to make you mine / Kissin’ and huggin’ all the time,” the verse continues, concluding, “You are my one and only under the sun / Give me your hand and we’ll have fun, fun, fun.” Yes! No extensive analysis is necessary for this joint. “Ffun” is nothing short of a boatload of fun, fun, fun! The funkiness of this ‘70s cut will never die!
