Cole Swindell returns with a beautiful, reminiscent, and tasteful ballad, “The Ones Who Got Me Here.” Albeit sound, the ballad is also predictable, lacking innovative spirit.
“The ones that I drank all those beers with / Made it through those high school years with / All those girls I loved who broke my heart.” Cole Swindell gets all reminiscent on ballad “The Ones Who Got Me Here.” We’ve seen this ‘emotion on sleeves’ performance from the ginger country star previously. Naturally, Swindell sings superbly, exhibiting his clear, distinct tone of voice. It is a voice that excels at ballads, hence the unsurprising success of “The Ones Who Got Me Here.”
“All the haters, all the lovers
All the friends that are more like brothers
All the people I ain’t seen in too many years
All the faces in the bleachers, the never gave up on me teachers
Yeah this one’s for the ones that got me here.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “The Ones Who Got Me Here” is sound without question. That said, as aforementioned, we’ve heard this from Cole Swindell many times. Does it get unbearably old? No – Swindell has the voice of a country angel. But, the result is a predictable ballad that doesn’t particularly rouse with any sense of innovative spirit. Give Cole credit for the memories but stepping outside of the box wouldn’t hurt.
