Out pop singer-songwriter Cole Redding drops a brief but striking, love-oriented single with “Shot In The Dark.”
“Shot In The Dark” features bright, exuberant production. Set in a major key, the musical accompaniment is sweet and suits Cole Redding superbly. Of course, our singer is the star of the show. He sings beautifully and effortlessly, never forcing things or overdoing it. Cole brings the tuneful melodies and thoughtful lyrics to life like a champ. He opens with a banger: “The moonlight / Is hotter than the heat of the sun.” Later, finding this high-flying fella, “My sheets are covered / In your cologne / For once I feel like I’m not alone.” Yeah, I jelly! The crème de la crème, unsurprisingly, is the chorus (excerpted earlier), where the titular phrase can be found:
“Now you
You got me running
To the beat of your heart
And I
Ain’t scared of falling
But I’m falling apart
I can see it coming
It don’t matter how far
We could hit forever
With a shot, shot, shot in the dark.”
There is a post-chorus/bridge, emphasizing that shot in the dark, before the concluding chorus. All told, “Shot In The Dark” is another highlight from Cole Redding. It checks off the right boxes: strong vocals, memorable theme and lyrics, tuneful melodies, and vibrant production.
