Cloudy June, get better! | Beaming with Pride

In the 102^nd edition of Beaming with Pride (2025), we highlight “get better!” performed by Cloudy June.  

Prepare to beam with P-R-I-D-E! Beaming with Pride celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies.  Here, we provide background and insight into musicians, analyze, plus go gaga over the decadent bops served up.  When songs dictate deeper and more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is fully articulated.  All styles of music are welcome, whether the songs are classics or brand-new. So, without further ado, in the 102^nd edition of Beaming with Pride (2025), we highlight “get better!” performed by Cloudy June. 

Cloudy June asserts in the opening line from the first verse of her single, “get better!”. Shouldn’t they like you, Cloudy? According to the feminist and queer musician, who identifies as bisexual, they don’t know her! “But I’m just a girl who’s fucked up in her psyche.” Fucked up, huh 👀 🤔? That’s some strong language right there! Aren’t all of us fucked up in some way? Anyways, “Get better!” is the fourth track from her 2025 EP, you ruined me but it was fun. Cloudy June, David Bonk, Julia Bergen, and Maarten Paul penned “get better!” while DaJu (Bonk and Bergen) produced it.

 

The struggle is real for Cloudy June throughout “get better!”. The thing is, June, who wants to get better, represents so many of us, regardless of gender, sexuality, or otherwise.  In the second verse, she asserts, “I wanna have fun, but panic at parties / When I see everyone, I’m comparing our bodies.” Preach, Cloudy! This is relatable to the nth degree. While it is easier said than done, we need to stop 🛑 comparing ourselves to others.  It is unhealthy! In the centerpiece, the chorus, we hear her cry at its loudest and clearest.

“I wish I could just love myself ‘stead of staring at the mirror

Cryin’ out for help, wishin’ I could be thinner

Everyone else got their bullshit together

I’m sick and tired, I just wanna get better.”

How does one get better? It takes plenty of willpower… and therapy. All told, Cloudy June brings the heat on “get better!”. Yeah, it’s dark and a downer, but give her credit for desiring to get to a better, healthier place.  Of course, June’s pain is our pleasure: she sings beautifully, the music is sweet, with a dash of rock, and the songwriting is spot on.
