Ah, bring on Midnight Heat! Wait – it is not usually hot at midnight! Well, it is steaming hot 🥵 at midnight when it comes to this naughty, innuendo-laden, and sex-laden column featuring songs intended for nighttime. These risqué, unapologetic records often raise eyebrows and temperature alike. In the 91st edition of Midnight Heat (2025), we explore the naughty, sexy vibes behind Sophomoreby Ciara.

“Oh na-nai, I ain’t no amateur / Baby, I know how to handle ya.”
According to Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Ciara (b. 1985), freshman year is over! She is a sophomore! Sophomore”, fittingly, is the second track from Ci’s self-titled 2013 album.  Now that she understands the ropes, she is taking the lead! “You can be my student, I’mma be your teacher / Let’s play a little game, follow the leader,” she concludes the naughty, sensual first verse. Ciara penned “Sophomore” with producer Soundz.

Soundz sets up Ciara for success.  The backdrop is electric, thanks to its minor-key, menacing synths, and kick-ass beat.  With her fire fueled, Ci takes us on a fun, sexy ride. Notably, this sophomore trip precedes “Body Party”, another titillating joint from Ciara.  In the bridge (or pre-chorus), she informs him, “I give a little lesson in sex education / Didn’t know I can work it like that.” The exclamation point: “C-c-c-cookie keep him coming back.” Not the cookie, Ciara 🤭! In the chorus, she touts her many assets, which include ASSets, of course.

“So soft, my skin

So soft, my booty

So soft, my bed

So soft, I got him sayin’

Give me more, I got him sayin’

Give me more, I got him sayin’…”

Ooh-wee, gurl! The second verse is also fun, including education references with a heaping dose of sex.  “To him I’m a professor,” Ciara asserts, and adds, “Bad grade if you do not behave / Don’t compare to them other girls, we’re not the same.” Fittingly, in the last line, Ci tells him, “Better come hard, boy, you know my name.” Spelling check on that form of the word, comeSophomore” appeared on a strong but underappreciated album from Ciara. More than a decade after its release, this song remains potent – a surefire sex bop!
