Chris Stapleton returns with his second album of 2017, ‘From a Room: Volume 2.’ “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind,” serves as the third single.

Chris Stapleton returned with a bang in 2017 with From a Room: Volume. 1.  From a Room: Vol. 1 was comprised of just nine songs, but showcased the musicianship and the consistency of Stapleton.  The expectation was that a second album would be released sooner than later, hence the announcement of From a Room: Volume 2 (December 1).  Also comprised of just nine songs, “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind,” serves as the third single.

“Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind” shimmers from the start.  This is good ole, old-school, traditional country music at its best.  Stapleton embraces outlaw country, clearly contrasting the dominant, modern, pop-oriented style. For this, he deserves kudos to the nth degree. “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind” clearly sounds more authentic than what a number of forgettable, contemporary-minded country songs.  Here, Stapleton is giving his all and doesn’t care that his approach to country music is considered anachronistic and dated.  Instead, he goes against the grain – against the trends – and he comes out squarely on top. We call that artistry.

Final Thoughts

It was never in doubt folks. Once again, Chris Stapleton delivers.  “Tryin’ to Untangle My Mind” is great, arguably, his best advance single from From a Room: Volume 2.  As aforementioned, the boxes are check off, and the consistency is magnificent.  Stapleton continues to showcase his considerable artistry.  Flex on brother, flex on.
