Songs About Serial Killers, Take 6The world is disgusted and fascinated with serial killers. ‘Chilling Songs About Serial Killers, Take 6,’ presents 15 more songs capturing their horror.

How can some people be so cold-hearted and evil? That is the question that is often asked about serial killers.  Serial killers both disgust the world as well as fascinate the world.  The reason for the fascination is because it’s tough to believe anyone could be so disturbed and go to such measures to end innocent lives.  The perversions of these killers have inspired numerous books, films, and music.  Today, we’ll explore just a small sliver of songs about serial killers. Here are 15 MORE Chilling Songs About Serial Killers (Take 6).

1. The Black Dahlia Murder, “Control”

Album: Everblack, 2013 | Killer Referenced: Jeffrey Dahmer

Metal Blade

The Black Dahlia Murder, Everblack © Metal BladeMarilyn Manson wrote a song that seems applicable when describing Jeffrey Dahmer – “Killing Strangers.” Homosexual serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer killed lots of strangers, all boys and young men. He didn’t just kill them though – he violated the corpses through cannibalism, dismemberment, and necrophilia.  Historically, he changed the game as absolutely abhorrent as that is. The Black Dahlia Murder tackles the devilish serial killer on “Control,” as song from their 2013 album, Everblack. “Control” references his salaciousness, lobotomies, and most colorfully, “animated fuck-dolls.”

“Salaciously, I experiment / Driven by fear of abandonment / To lobotomize / A dead stare in their eyes / No return from “213” / Within these walls, I own your soul / Surrender now / Succumb to me / Suspended in vegetative throes / Animated fuck-dolls / Warm bodies with holes / All pleasures of flesh, I now own / Their past is forgotten / Eroded from the frontal lobe.”

How did this one miss An Eerie Soundtrack to Jeffrey Dahmer?

2. Macabre, “The Black Knight”

Album: Grim Scary Tales, 2011 | Killer Referenced: Gilles de Rais

Decomposed

Macabre, Grim Scary Tales © Decomposed“Gilles De Rais was the man / Who cut up the French children / What Gilles De Rais would do then / Is masturbate on their organs.” Oh geez… Gilles de Rais is notable in history for fighting alongside Joan of Arc.  Unfortunately, he is also notable because he was a convicted pedophilic serial killer. He not only killed innocent children, but the pervert sodomized them.

Interestingly, The Black Dahlia Murder covered de Rais on Chilling Songs About Serial Killers, Take 5 (“The Window”).  On ‘Take 6,’ we leave it up to doom metal vets Macabre to depict his perversions on “The Dark Night.” As you read from the introductory lyrical quote, they don’t sugarcoat the perverted, twisted person that Gilles de Rais was.

“He got away with murder for eight years with his noble position / Rais dabbled in occult while he eliminated local children.”

“…Gilles De Rais killing ways finally ceased /He sold a castle and took it back with force by beating a priest / A violation against the church that stripped Rais of his position /Soon after that they solved the mystery of the missing children.”

“…They searched Rais’ castle and then found fifty mutilated kids / Faced with torture and excommunication / Rais confessed to what he did / Condemned by the church for using Black Magic and the court for murder / Rais was executed where he was simultaneously hanged and burned.”

3. Sigh, “In the Mind of a Lunatic”

Album: Scenario IV: Dread Dreams, 1999 | Killer Referenced: Jack the Ripper

Cacophonous

Sigh, Scenario IV: Dread Dreams © Cacophonous“Lunatic, you are just a maniac / Lunatic, on thoughts you do react / Lunatic, death is your domain / Lunatic, you’re the man with rotten brains.” Ah, Japanese metal band Sigh gets in on the serial killer coverage. Before the aforementioned quote from “In the Mind of a Lunatic,” the band starts the story of Jack the Ripper is buying a girl for pleasure.

“A man is searching for a girl to get him through the night / And with a smile he gets a lady for he knows his price is right / Off they go into an alley it’s just around the bend / But one’s not coming back for the Ripper’s loose again.”

Sigh goes on to expound on the man’s intentions.  Also, like many of the artists on this list, great emphasis is placed on the worthlessness of the victims.  That shouldn’t be the case, despite their profession, but social status is STILL more important than it should be.

“Deep does cut the knife into another lady’s life / For a man is killing off the corner whores / And with a steady hand he creeps around the land / This slashing fiend does bring a scene of gore/ From top down to the bottom his victims feel the knife / For with precision and great care they have been cut / The horror of their faces are now stuck in scenes of fright / From the brutal acts committed on these sluts.”

Fittingly, the mystery of Jack the Ripper is also addressed.

“The town is drenched in murder while the whores are drenched in blood / And London has no clue, who is this beast? / In time, the killings ended but the case was never solved / And the curious they never went away / But no one was ever named for the crimes of Jack the Ripper / It’s a mystery that’s lasting till this very day.”

4. Green on Red, “Drifter”

Album: Gas Food Lodging / Green on Red, 1982 | Killer Referenced: Ted Bundy

Ryko / Rhino

Green on Red, Gas Flood Lodging / Green On Red © Ryko / Rhino“They call me the drifter / I kill from town to town / Ain’t no way of getting closer / Than the way I’ve found.” Creepy and foreboding.  Naturally, “Drifter” by Green on Red serves as a fitting soundtrack to Ted Bundy, the charming, handsome, but absolutely lethal serial killer.  While “Drifter” doesn’t give every detail about Bundy and his madness, it gives just enough info over the course of its two-and-a-half-minute duration.

“I started in Seattle / Worked my way down South / I find my prey at nighttime / And leave them helpless / They call me the killer / Got a lot on my mind / I drive in old cars / The sheriff never finds.”

“I started in Seattle / Went down to Key West / I found my five angels / And I laid them down to rest.”

5. Dead Boys, “Son of Sam”

Album: Night of the Living Dead Boys, 1981 | Killer Referenced: David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)

Bomp!

Dead Boys, Night of the Living Dead Boys © Bomp!“I am Son of Sam / I got death breathing from my hand.” Phew! Despite his overwhelming infamy, few songs about David Berkowitz, better known as Son of Sam have graced The Musical Hype true crime playlists.  That’s a travesty.  No fears, as Dead Boys provide us with the electrifying “Son of Sam.” The song starts devilishly, referencing Berkowitz’s bizarre claim a demon-possessed commanded him to murder.

“Last night in the middle of a dream / Fiery red dog eyes double beamed / Tell me directions of my soul / Poured my life inside a bullet hole / I can’t resist, I cannot fight / I’ve fallen victim to his bite / I have killed six but I’ll kill more / Sam commands my .44.”

6. Green Jellÿ, “Cereal Killer”

Album: Cereal Killer Soundtrack, 1993 | Killer Referenced: David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)

Volcano

Green Jellÿ, Cereal Killer Soundtrack © Volcano“Toucan Son of Sam! / Snap! Crackle! Pop! / Toucan Son of Sam!” The more Son of Sam the merrier! Wait, that totally didn’t sound right! The heinous nature of the Son of Sam and his crimes are no joking matter.  However, comedic metal-punk collective Green Jellÿ has some fun with the deranged serial killer on “Cereal Killer.” Great title…

“Terror in the supermarket / Shoppers are in horror / Shredded boxes in the aisles / Corpses on the floor.”

Oh brother! The puns and wordplay are absolutely ridiculous.

“Those who ran / This joy is mine / Now they’re going to pay / Super gory slaughter / Now the order of the day! / Toucan, Son of Sam! / Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids.”

7. Suffocation, “Bind Torture Kill”

Album: Suffocation, 2006 | Killer Referenced: Denis Rader (BTK)

Relapse

Suffocation © Relapse“I’m damned to be disposed in perpetual fire / Dismantled youth forced and shaped my being / Deafening voices fuel my actions / And drive me to bind torture kill.” BTK. Bind. Torture. Kill.  Wow. Suffocation are damn right about one thing – Dennis Rader certainly seems damned to be disposed in perpetual fire.  Rader was one of those ‘model citizen’ types, yet, he was living a completely different life behind closed doors.  Interestingly, his arrogance caused him to be captured after evading it for years. Shame on him.

On a previous list, Steven Wilson had the honors of tackling BTK with his song, “Raider II.” Here, New York death metal band Suffocation take on the task on the fittingly titled “Bind Torture Kill.”

“I bind to keep, Torture one to strengthen / And kill the weak who fail to meet the needs / Unstable diagnosis, detained to live a victim of myself / Predestined fate nurtures the act of sinning and drives me to / Bind torture kill.”

8. Suicide Commando, “Bind Torture Kill”

Album: Bind, Torture, Kill, 2006 | Killer Referenced: Denis Rader (BTK)

Metropolis

Suicide Commando, Bind, Torture, Kill © Metropolis“Bind torture, and kill.” While the fire’s hot, might as well add fuel to it.  Suicide Commando gets in on the BTK action with his own “Bind Torture Kill.”  There is a contrast. Suicide Commando isn’t a death metal band, but rather and electro-industrial act.  That’s a contrast to our lists, which are predominantly comprised of metal bands.  Also, Suicide Commando hails from Belgium as opposed to stateside.

The sound of “Bind Torture Kill” is incredibly foreboding, thanks to a dark, electronic sound palette.  That should be the case. Just imagine how the poor, innocent victims of Dennis Rader felt as he was imposing death on them.

“So pretty, so frail / I watch your body turning pale / So fragile, so weak / I didn’t want to be this creep / Soul stripper, soul ripper / I bind her legs, excruciate her / Start bleeding, stop breathing / I take your life, I am defeating.”

9. Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages, “Jack the Ripper”

Album: Til the Following Night, 2015 | Killer Referenced: Jack the Ripper

Rollercoaster

Screaming Lord Sutch, Til the Following Night © Rollercoaster“There’s a man who walks the streets of London late at night / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper / With a little black bag that’s oh-so tight / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper.” There are far fewer more entertaining songs about serial killers than “Jack the Ripper” by Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages. Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages were a British rock band from the 1960s.  In 1963, the band first gave the world a glimpse into the evils of Jack the Ripper, in the most tongue-n-cheek way possible.

“He’s got a big black cloak hangin’ down his back / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper /That’s one big cat I just hate to fight / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper / When he walks down the streets / Every girl he meets he says; is you name Mary Kelly?”

They accurately nail the fact that Jack the Ripper was never caught.

“Scotland Yard will never catch him, he’s too clever / He’s much too clever.”

10. The Adverts, “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes”

Album: Crossing the Red Sea, 1978 | Killer Referenced: Gary Gilmore

Fire

The Adverts, Crossing the Red Sea © FireEnglish punk band The Adverts bestow one twisted song on the world with “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes.” First thing’s first though – who was Gary Gilmore? He was an American thief and a murderer.  He doesn’t have the body count of some these guys, but he killed two men for no reason. Ultimately, he was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad.

So, what’s so twisted about this particular song? Apparently, in this fictional gem, Gary Gilmore’s corneas were donated to someone. Given the horrible person that Gilmore was, the person is literally “looking through Gary Gilmore’s eyes.”

“The doctors are avoiding me / My vision is confused / I listen to my earphones / And I catch the evening news / A murderer’s been killed / and he donates his sight to science / I’m locked into a private ward / I realize that I must be / Looking through Gary Gilmore’s eyes.”

11. Slayer, “Angel of Death”

Album: Reign in Blood, 1986 | Killer Referenced: Joseph Mengele

American Recordings

Slayer, Reign in Blood © American Recordings“Auschwitz, the meaning of pain / The way that I want you to die / Slow death, immense decay / Showers that cleanse you of your life.” When it comes to heavy metal, Slayer are the crème de la crème.  The band is both famous as well as infamous, depending on where you stand. The themes are definitely not for the ‘faint of heart.’ On “Angel of Death,” the up-tempo opener from Reign in Blood (1986), the metal vets tackle Joseph Mengele. Mengele was an infamous doctor at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, known for his “inhumane medical experimentation upon the prisoners.”

“Sadistic, surgeon of demise / Sadist of the noblest blood / Destroying, without mercy / To benefit the Aryan race.”

Fans of American Horror Story may not have realized that character Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell) was based on Mengele. “Angel of Death” was the nickname for Mengele, in addition to being the song’s title.

“Surgery, with no anesthesia / Feel the knife pierce you intensely / Inferior, no use to mankind / Strapped down screaming out to die.”

“Pumped with fluid, inside your brain / Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes / Burning flesh, drips away / Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil.”

12. Celtic Frost, “Into the Crypts of Rays”

Album: Morbid Tales | Killer Referenced: Gilles de Rais

Noise

Celtic Frost, Morbid Tales © NoiseGilles de Rais, the perverted son / Unholy man / Into the crypt of Rais.” Once again, we revisit pedophilic serial killer Gilles de Rais. Swiss heavy metal band Celtic Frost sets up the hellishness on the malicious, up-tempo “Into the Crypts of Rays.” The lyrics are self-explanatory. Ultimately, they simply confirm he was a bad, bad man.

“Years of plead behind the walls / Chambers and vaults, scenes of fright / Unspoken words in pain and dread / 140 lives passed his hands /…Alluring children for his masses / Robbing and buying young souls / Sacrifice to morbid demons / Satisfy his sexual lust / …Personal guard for Jeanne D’Arc / The rising of his soul to God.”

13. Kittie, “Charlotte”

Album: Spit, 1999 | Killer Referenced: Robert Berdella

eOne Music

Kittie, Spit © eOne MusicAh, a new monster appears – Robert BerdellaThis dude was known as ‘The Kansas City Butcher.’ He was one of the few homosexual killers, a breed that are especially scary when it comes to serial killing.  Unlike the most famous homosexual serial killers (Dahmer and Gacy), Berdella has a smaller body count.  Still, he was no slouch.  There was incapacitation by drugs, torture, human dissection… Yeah.

Canadian heavy metal band Kittie captures the horror on “Charlotte.” According to Songfacts, the inspiration for the song came from book entitled Rites of Burial.  That book is about our serial killer at hand.  The song only features a couple of lyrics, but the angst is turned up to the nth degree right from the start.

“So, I’m nothing? / You took something from me / Now you’ve disappeared / You’re right where I want you / You said you wanted it, alright / No! It’s not alright!”

14. Macabre, “Diary of Torture”

Album: Murder Metal, 2003 | Killer Referenced: Robert Berdella

Decomposed

Macabre, Murder Metal © Decomposed“Robert Berdella / Would torture young fellows / Until they were skin and bones / And when they were dead / The garbage man / Would take them away from his home.” Who better to close the chapter on Robert Berdella than Macabre? Making their second appearance on this playlist, they’re automatic on “Diary of Torture.”

“My fist has ripped your anal wall / So penicillin I prescribe /To keep you alive and subject you / To much more torture before you die / With a home-made ballast plugged in the wall / 7000 volts I apply / With battery cables clamped on to your scrotum / Your testicles I will fry.”

15. Lordi, “Blood Red Sandman”

Album: The Monsterican Dream, 2004 | Killer Referenced: Jack the Ripper

The End

Lordi, The Monsterican Dream © The EndOn “Blood Red Sandman,” Finnish metal band Lordi concocts its own hellish serial killer: Blood Red Sandman.  However, the band seems inspired by the infamous Jack the Ripper.  The best evidence of arrives on the first verse of the song.

“They call me the Leather Apron / They call me Smiling Jack / They pray to the heavens above / That I would never ever come back.”

“Leather Apron” and “Smiling Jack” were nicknames for Jack the Ripper.  Beyond this, Lordi uses its own creativity to depict the evil Blood Red Sandman.

“Once again / There is pain / I bring flames / I bring cold / I’m the Blood Red Sandman / Coming home / On this unholy night / I will make you my own…”
