Rising Los Angeles, California DJ trio Cheat Codes compels once again on their brief, question-filled single, “I Love It,” featuring Canadian EDM duo DVBBS.
Los Angeles, California production team Cheat Codes is comprised of three different DJs: Trevor Dahl, Kevin Ford, and Matthew Russell. To date, arguably the trio’s biggest hit is “No Promises”, featuring Demi Lovato. Not a bad look in the least. Continuing to build their brand, the rising DJ/production trio drop “I Love It,”assisted by Canadian EDM duo DVBBS.
“I Love It” is another shiny production from Cheat Codes, and of course, DVBBS in this particular case. The beat grooves, the synths pop, and all feels right in the EDM world. The record commences with an intro asking three questions, all related to luxury – “500 suits?” “Rolls Royce?” and “Lincoln Continental?” These questions set the tone for the first and second verse, both of which also feature three questions. On the first verse, Trevor Dahl questions himself about his behaviors (hard work, smoking, relationships), while on the second focuses exclusively on love/relationships (“Why do I feel the need to leave you like it’s nothing?”).
The chorus is the centerpiece, switching from questions to clear-cut statements – the answers if you will. Dahl sings:
“We’ll, I’ve been drinking every night because I love it
And I’m wearing off-white because I love it
And I’m spending all the money in the budget
Oh, easy does it, oh yeah, oh yeah.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, Cheat Codes, assisted by DVBBS, have another sound, enjoyable record on their hands with “I Love It.” Perhaps it doesn’t supplant homeruns like the edgy “NSFW” or the previous “Balenciaga”, but the trio remains consistent and chocked-full of potential and promise. #Winning.
