The Chart Scoop | Linkin Park ‘Light’ up the Billboard 200

Despite tempered expectations, Linkin Park scored another no. 1 album on Billboard 200 with ‘One More Light.’

Despite the tepid reviews that have greeted One More Light, Linkin Park has earned another no. 1 album.  One More Light debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with respectable numbers – 111,000 units.  The numbers aren’t breathtaking or awe-inspiring, but given the current climate and the mixed response towards this particular album, Linkin Park should pat themselves on the back.  More impressive, of those 111,000 units, 90% were pure sales.

Overall, it was a quiet week on the Billboard 200. Harry Styles, the king of last week’s edition, slipped from no. 1 to no. 3.  Kendrick Lamar, who knows how to sell a couple of DAMN albums, ascended to no. 2.  According to Keith Caulfield of Billboard, Lamar seemed to be positioned to retake the throne this week.  Damn, those Light-touting rockers exceeded expectations.  Okay, enough puns.  On the Billboard Hot 100, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber continue to rule the roost with “Despacito.” Below are some takeaways from both charts.

Billboard 200 Grooves 

1. Linkin Park scores another no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with One More Light.

2. Kendrick Lamar moves up one spot from no. 3 to no. 2 with DAMN.

3. Harry Styles sees his self-titled effort slip from no. 1 to no. 3 in its second week on the Billboard 200.

4. Drake remains a force on the Billboard 200 as More Life rises from no. 7 to no. 4. Even so, it doesn’t make any significant gains.

5. After a couple of weeks spent outside of the top 10, Migos return as Culture ascends from no. 13 to no. 10. Like Drake, however, Migos don’t make any significant gains despite rising.

6. Rascal Flatts just miss the top 10 as Back to Us settles for a no. 11 start.

7. Future sees a spike from his self-titled album, which jumps from no. 19 to no. 14.

8. Blink-182 gets a lift as California reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 17, thanks to the release of the deluxe version of the album.

9. Logic continues his descent down the charts as Everybody slides from no. 11 to no. 19.

10. Papa Roach earn a top-20 album with Crooked Teeth, which lands at no. 20.

11. Machine Gun Kelly takes a mighty tumble as bloom slides from no. 8 to no. 25 in its second week.

12. Paramore had a horrid second week as After Laughter slid 26 spots from no. 6 to no. 32.

13. Childish Gambino is on the rise as “Awaken, My Love!” jumps from no. 53 to no. 38 in its 25^th charting week.

14. After debuting at no. 76, XXXTentacion sees his Revenge ascend 32 spots from no. 76 to no. 44.

15. Snoop Dogg settles for a mediocre no. 54 start with Neva Left.

16. Mandisa debuts at no. 60 with her latest religious set, Out of the Dark.

17. Faith Evans & The Notorious B.I.G. start at no. 65 with The King & I.

18. Ariana Grande sees a spike in impact as Dangerous Woman ascends from no. 90 to no. 68.

19. David Banner debuts at no. 76 with the oft-delayed #TheGodBox.

20. MisterWives debuts at no. 124 with Connect the Dots.

Hot 100 Jewels

1. Surprise hit “Despacito” spends a third week at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

2. Julia Michaels sees “Issues” reach a new peak position – no. 11.

3. Imagine Dragons are finally seeing “Believer” pay dividends, as it ascends from no. 20 to no. 15 in its 16^th charting week.

4. Miley Cyrus sees “Malibu” descend from no. 10 to no. 18 in its third week.

5. Brett Young creeps into the top-20 with his crossover country hit, “In Case You Didn’t Know” (rises from no. 23 to no. 19).

6. Childish Gambino has new life with “Redbone,” which ascends from no. 29 to no. 22. “Redbone” has now charted for 25 weeks!

7. Shawn Mendes is quickly on the rise (again) with “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back,” which jumps from no. 32 to no. 25.

8. Halsey gains some traction with “Now or Never,” which ascends from no. 38 to no. 26 seven weeks in.

9. Selena Gomez has to be happy that “Bad Liar” skyrockets from no. 80 to no. 27 in only two weeks.

10. After a lackadaisical chart run initially, Ed Sheeran is getting some love for “Castle on the Hill,” which rises nine spots to no. 30 in its 20^th charting week.

11. Charlie Puth continues to get attention for his hot new single, “Attention,” which ascends from no. 45 to no. 35.

12. Liam Payne debuts at no. 42 with his sexy new single, “Strip That Down,” featuring Quavo.

13. Katy Perry charts another new single, “Swish Swish,” featuring Nicki Minaj. It lands at no. 46.

14. Hailee Steinfeld charts “Most Girls” at no. 77.
