Halsey, hopeless fountain kingdom © AstralwerksHalsey scores her first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. “Despacito” remains the song to beat on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her moment has finally arrived. Halsey sees her sophomore album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom debut at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.  The numbers are respectable, with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom moving 106,000 units according to Billboard.  Of those 106,000 units, roughly 72% were album sales (76,000).  Even though Hopeless Fountain Kingdom topped the charts, Halsey’s debut album, Badlands, outperformed it in the numbers department.

There were more notable happenings within the top 10 of the Billboard 200.  Streaming compilation Epic AF enters the top 10 at no. 3. Country newcomer Luke Combs arrives with his debut album This One’s for You, at no. 5 with 43,000 units (~81% album sales). All Time Low enters the mix at no. 9 with Last Young Renegade, moving 33,000 units (~91% album sales).  Otherwise, its “familiarity city” with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, The Beatles, Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Bruno Mars.

On the Hot 100, it’s “familiarity city” for sure as Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber continues to hold the no. 1 spot with “Despacito.”  This marks the fifth consecutive week that “Despacito” has reigned supreme.  The top 10 contains the exact same entries as last week, with a few in different positions.  There are more takeaways from the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Hot 100, dated June 24, 2017.
