Charli XCX returns a with bright, electrifying single in “Out of My Head.” She doesn’t ‘go it alone’ – she’s assisted by Tove Lo and ALMA.
Girl power! Charli XCX is back with a new album, Pop 2, arriving December 15. The British artist made some waves earlier in 2017 with single “Boys.” Unfortunately, “Boys” doesn’t make the cut on the 10-track album. What does is “Out of My Head,” where Charli XCX enlists Tove Lo and ALMA for the assist. The results are swell.
Tove Lo kicks off “Out of My Head,” handling the first verse and the pre-chorus. While she remains sexy, she is tamer than we’ve been accustomed to – for the time being.
“All of the lies I just wanna believe / Drop all my morals, I just wanna sin.”
ALMA handles the catchy and infectious, if repetitive chorus. This is the crowning achievement of “Out of My Head,” without a doubt.
“I’m out of my, out of my / Out of my head / Please, get out of my, out of my, out of my / Out of my head.”
Charli XCX, doesn’t arrive until the second verse. She doesn’t say much, but, “I’ll get by if I’m getting love.” Okay. She joins forces with Tove Lo on the pre-chorus, before the golden ALMA chorus returns. After keeping things relatively clean, the true colors come out on the bridge. Naturally, Tove Lo leads the profane path, with ALMA and Charli XCX following.
“You got me doin’ all this stupid shit / You f*ck me up like this / Secretly I’m into it though.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Out of My Head” is enjoyable through and through. The production work is bright and energetic, while Charli XCX, Tove Lo, and ALMA all give respectable, sound performances. For the most part, this is a tasteful track, save for the edgy bridge. Again, that’s saying something for Tove Lo, who is among the most unapologetic artists of late.
