Prepare to beam with P-R-I-D-E! Beaming with Pride celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies.  Here, we provide background and insight into musicians, analyze, plus go gaga over the decadent bops served up.  When songs dictate deeper and more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is fully articulated.  All styles of music are welcome, whether the songs are classics or brand-new. So, without further ado, in the 94th edition of Beaming with Pride️‍ (2025), we highlight “Cherries” performed by Charley.

“Those chocolate eyes know what I’m needing / While she ties her hair down low / She knows how my body’s screaming, oh.”
OH, indeed 😈. Out and proud Australian singer-songwriter Charley (Claire Howell, she/her) is open about her sexual desires on her fun, titillating single, “Cherries”.  Sex-positivity is all the rage, and she embraces it, whole hog 🐷! She penned “Cherries” with Lukas Costas, TBHits, Ned Houston, and SXSSY. Costas and TBHits produced it.

The musical accompaniment and sleek production set up Charley for success.  The groove is electrifying from the jump.  The sound palette is colorful – keys, synths, and programming fueling the fire.  Of course, the star of the show is Charley, who delivers playful, seductive vocals from the jump. “You read / My mind / A sixth sense / But you gone take your sweet time.” Ooh-wee! She admits, “And I knew we were trouble / When her hands said, ‘I’ll make you mine.’” In the pre-chorus, she informs us, recklessly, “Can’t keep my eyes on the freeway / ‘Cause she can’t wait till we’re home / Baby don’t you hit the brakes.” Damn, girls!   The chorus is memorable to the nth degree, featuring the most tuneful melody of the song!

“You taste like cherries

Everything feels better when you touch me

(When you touch me, love it when you touch me)

You’re too sweet

One look ‘til you’re takin’ off my blue jeans, my blue jeans.”

Upping the ante are the layered, harmonized vocals. On “Cherries”, girls really do like girls, without a question.  What more can you say but love is love, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
