Caution: 3BOPS No. 17 (2021) [📷: Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype, Pixels]On the 17th edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with CAUTION in some form or fashion.

On 3BOPS, we are totally dedicated to keeping things L-I-T-E! Similar to 5ive Songs, there’s a topic and a short blurb, only with THREE songs instead of FIVE.  Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  On the 17th edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with CAUTION in some form or fashion.

1. KAYTRANADA, “Caution”

🎵 “Caution” • 🏷 RCA • 📅 2021

KAYTRANADA, "Caution" [📷: RCA]Canadian DJ/Producer 🎙 KAYTRANADA delivered quite the groovy, vibe-laden instrumental gem with his single, 🎵 “Caution”. “Caution” keeps things tight, running just over two-and-a-half minutes. You should definitely proceed with “Caution” as you’ll easily find yourself moving to this joint! Written and 🎛 produced solely by KAYTRANADA, it’s the rare record in this day and age constructed by one person.

The results are marvelous as Celestin drops some truly ear catching minimalism. The music speaks for itself.  It’s hypnotic, fusing electronic and R&B seamlessly.  This joint is readymade for the club or simply some self-care – dance therapy – at the crib.

2. The Killers, “Caution”

💿 Imploding the Mirage • 🏷 Island • 📅 2020

The Killers, Imploding the Mirage [📷 : Island]“I’m throwin’ caution, what’s it gonna be? / Tonight, the winds of change are blowing wild and free.” 🎙 Brandon Flowers and 🎙 The Killers shined on 🎵 “Caution”, a surefire highlight from their 2020 album, 💿 Imploding the Mirage. “Caution” commences enigmatically, with pads and slow-moving, restrained vocals by Flowers on the intro. Soon enough, it embraces groove, a quick tempo, increased dynamics, and those signature expressive, powerful vocals by Flowers. As always, Flowers sings with incredible confidence, showcasing his personality, and has some great, narrative-driven lyrics to work with.

“Let me introduce you to the featherweight queen,” Flowers sings on the first verse, continuing, “She got Hollywood eyes, but she can’t shoot what she sees.”  On the second, the lyrics continue to be descriptive – thoughtfully penned: “Never had a diamond on the sole of her shoes / Just blacktop white trash straight out of the news.” Of course, the centerpiece is the chorus, excerpted at the top. Ultimately, it’s a fantastic track featuring great production (🎛 Jonathan Rado and 🎛 Shawn Everett), top-notch vocals, and well-rounded, memorable songwriting.

3. Mariah Carey, “Caution”

💿 Caution • 🏷 Epic • 📅 2018

Mariah Carey, Caution [📷: Epic]In the context of 💿 Caution, the 2018 album by 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter 🎙 Mariah Carey, the title track has a truly tough act to follow.  How so? Well, it’s preceded by the profane 🎵 “GTFO” and ballad 🎵 “With You”, both the crème de la crème.  🎵 “Caution” may not end up being quite as elite, but ultimately, things work out for Mimi on this sleek, low-key, minor-key record.

For the most part, Mariah Carey maintains balance vocally, impressing more with subtlety as opposed to histrionics.  She still shows off her mad skills via ad-libs, an assortment of nuances, and harmonized moments.
