Cattle Decapitation remains true to their extreme metal ways on the dark and damning promo single from Terrasite, βWe Eat Our Young.β
βAh! The fleshy architect! / Bold in design but fucking out of its mind / With self-indulgence and a self-worship / Birthing in stifling numbers as the planet worsens.βΒ Utter pessimism and an extreme brand of metal go hand in hand. π Cattle Decapitation is awesome at being dark, damning, and abso-fuΒ’king-lutely unapologetic (the f-bomb was necessary) π. Ahead of a new album filled with hellishness, πΏ Terrasite (arrives May 12, 2023), Cattle Decapitation gives us the subtly titled promo single, π΅ βWe Eat Our Youngβ.Β Let that digest!
βWe Eat Our Youngβ checks off the boxes for the typical Cattle Decapitation rubric. Itβs hella heavy β jagged rhythms and riffs β distorted to the nth degree, and dark AF.Β The lyrics are easily decipherable, which is more than can be said of unclean vocals from some extreme metal collectives.Β As always, the world is going to $hit by the bandβs estimations, beginning with the first lyrics of the first verse: βHomo sapiens have made it perfectly clear / We canβt control ourselves / Living a life perfectly fine with blindly multiplying / Conscious of ruination coursing through our own bloodlines.βΒ Woo! Β Another intriguing moment comes when π Travis Ryan sings, βWe’ve upped the ante as the most invasive species of life / That ever shat on this earth / That learned to shit in its hearth, that ever bore living birth / That taught its offspring to drive its own hearse.β Wow!
Final Thoughts π
Cattle Decapitation is a one-of-a-kind metal band β that goes without saying! Once more, Travis Ryan and company inform us how horrible humankind is (like, very, very bad). What isnβt horrible is π΅ βWe Eat Our Youngβ. It marks another hard-hitting musical happening by the always unapologetic band.Β Rock TF on π€!
