Cassie, Love a Loser © EpicCassie returns with her comeback single, “Love a Loser.” The “Me & U” hit-maker is assisted by Bay area rapper G-Eazy.

Some artists take more losses than others.  That is the case with Cassie, who has had trouble shaking off the one-hit wonder status.  No, “Me & U” wasn’t the only charting single from her self-titled, 2006 debut album, but it was the only surefire hit.  Since then, Cassie hasn’t done anything substantial – no shade. She returns with her comeback single, “Love a Loser,” featuring the ubiquitous G-Eazy.

“Love a Loser” is definitely in Cassie’s wheelhouse.  Vocally, she was never flashy, and here she’s also devoid of flashiness.  Cassie is the type of artist that excels when she’s surrounded with ear-catching production.  She has a respectable voice, but she’s no powerhouse.  Once again, “Love a Loser” reminds those of us who remember her that it’s more about the sound and vibe than the vocal.  “Love a Loser” sounds good enough from a production standpoint, but by no means is this the second coming.

As far as the theme of the song, its wise, if simple.  Cassie would “Rather lose a lover than to love a loser.” It makes you ponder for a couple of seconds.  Again, her vocals sound good, but not particularly rousing or stimulating.  The second verse, courtesy of G-Eazy is more intriguing.  It’s not because he’s delivering the deepest rhymes, but he does have personality. Arguably, the most memorably moment – the one f-bomb.

Final Thoughts

So, how does “Love a Loser” stack up for Cassie? As a comeback single, it’s a bit underwhelming.  This is a decent number, but not brand new.  Think of how many pop and R&B artists there are and many could’ve sung this particular song. Featuring G-Eazy was smart given his ascent in the music industry, but it’s not enough to elevate this song beyond being just okay.
