Afew years ago, pop artist 🎙 Carlos Guevara caught my eye – well, more accurately – my ears.  Why? Well, then, performing as Carlos Vara, he showcased his truly compelling and commanding vocals on the song, 🎵 “Numb” (2018). After a couple of years have passed, and Carlos has released singles and an EP (💿 Have You Ever Seen a Boy Break Down? (EP)), Guevara returns with quite a ‘stimulating’ single, 🎵 “Pin Me Down”. Perhaps Justin Moran for Paper Mag describes “Pin Me Down” best with the feature on the single, Carlos Guevara Steps Into His Power on ‘Pin Me Down’.

“Pin Me Down” was ‘penned’ by Guevara alongside 🎼✍ Nate Cyphert, and Steve Mostyn.  The single opens with enigmatic, minor key production work at the onset. The groove established early on is definitely a win for both Carlos as well as the audience.  Just as aforementioned, Guevara delivers expressive, colorful, and commanding vocals from the jump.  On the pre-chorus, he serves up some falsetto, complementing the smoother contrast of that particular section of the song. Even with the smoother vibe, the pre-chorus remains driving thanks to the continual groove.

The best section of the song is undoubtedly the centerpiece, the chorus.  It’s catchy and sexy, delivering a great, electrifying vibe overall.  As notable as Guevara’s chorus is, the bridge section might be the most notable, marking he most risqué, sexiest part of the song. I truly heart the rhythmic nature of the melodic lines during the bridge section; the increased pace of the lines just adds to the naughtiness.  Mentioning all of these things regarding the song, I can’t leave this review without mentioning the music video, which is quite edgy, with the sensuality being pronounced.

Final Thoughts 💭

So, how would I characterize, summarize, or put a cap on the bop that is “Pin Me Down?” Well, “Pin Me Down” just might quench your thirst, or perhaps, further amplify pent up, pandemic horniness, haha.  Whatever effect it may have on you, musically, this is fine work from a pop artist in Carlos Guevara that definitely deserves more attention and wider recognition.
