Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B enlists Lil Durk and Kanye West for her 2022 comeback single, simply titled, “Hot Shit.”
“I
thought I killed you hoes before, it must be déjà vu / It’s either that or I’m catchin’ body number two.” WOOO! After an extended hiatus, 🎙 Cardi B is back with some 🎵 “Hot Shit” – OKURRRRR! The 🏆 Grammy-winning rapper enlists 🎙 Lil Durk and 🎙 Kanye West (!) for the assist. Is it just me, or was it surprising to see ‘Ye appear on a single with the word shit in it after swearing off swearing? Also, he swears: “I’m just sayin’, now I start to get used to the pain / ‘Til one day I said, ‘Fuck it,’ brought my masseuse on the plane.” So, how “hot” is the “shit” – that is the question!🎛 Tay Keith gives Cardi B a banging beat. I love how rhythmic it sounds on the bottom – WOO, that bass! The percussive inspiration is there. As far as energy, Cardi has no shortage of it in the first verse as well as her chorus (those final two lines = 🔥). Similarly, Lil Durk is energetic in the second verse, and Kanye is energetic in the third. Are the rhymes game-changing from any of the three rappers? Nah, not particularly. Cardi places emphasis on being a bad bitch in the first verse, with some potent lines (“Pretty when I wake up, I’m a bad bitch at breakfast / Still might slide on a opp (It’s electric)”). Lil Durk brings toughness and references his label and the late 🎙 King Von. As for Mr. West, his verse may be the most interesting. He cries foul about social media, remembers Virgil Abloh, and, as usual, is confident AF – that Kanye ego!
Final Thoughts 💭
So, the question is, is 🎵 “Hot Shit” truly ‘hot shit’ or is it ‘hot garbage?’ Here’s the deal. If you have to name a song a generic title like “Hot Shit,” I’m skeptical of the quality before even listening to it. That said, this comeback single by Cardi B is respectable. I wouldn’t say it ‘blows me out of the water,’ but it’s respectable.
