Camila Cabello makes it pretty ‘easy’ to relate to “Easy,” her fourth single slated to appear on her highly anticipated sophomore album, Romance.
“You tell me that I’m complicated / And that might be an understatement / Anything else?” “Easy” follows numerous singles released by Camila Cabello in 2019: “Señorita” with boyfriend (and pop heartthrob) Shawn Mendes, “Shameless”, “Liar”, and “Cry for Me”. Cabello co-wrote “Easy” with Adam Feeney, Carter Long, John Hill, Justin Tranter, Louis Bell, and Westen Weiss. That’s a lot of songwriters, but ‘goes with the territory’ of pop music. Of the songwriters, Dukes, Bell, Weiss, Lang, and Hill also co-produce.
As the excerpt from the first verse suggests, Cabello’s lover characterizes her throughout the course of “Easy.” Even with what seems like criticism, he tells her towards the end of the first verse, “You tell me that you’d rather fight / Than spend a single peaceful night / With somebody else.” From there, Cabello sings about just how wonderful this lover is. On the second verse, her insecurities are things that he has no issue with, and even loves:
“I never liked my crooked teeth You tell me they’re your favorite thing Anything else? The stretch marks all around my thighs Kiss ‘em ‘til I change my mind About everything else.”
Of course, the pre-chorus and the chorus find Cabello beaming about love. “Always thought I was hard to love,” she sings, continuing, “‘Til you made it seem so easy, seem so easy.” Beyond the lyrics, “Easy” is pretty ‘easy’ to get into. Cabello sings well, particularly when she hits her upper register and the production is well-rounded.
Final Thoughts
Is “Easy” a game changer for Camila Cabello? Of course not, but it’s another enjoyable, well-executed record from the Grammy-nominated pop artist. For anyone who has experienced love, or wants to experience it someday, “Easy” is quite relatable. All in all, “Easy” is pretty sweet.
