Actor and Internet personality Cameron Dallas tries his hand at music once more, dropping the low-key, urban-pop single, “Why Haven’t I Met You?”  

More and more, internet influencers and personalities are dipping their toes into the music business. That’s not surprising – actors want to be singers, singers want to be actors, so on and so forth. Cameron Dallas, the hella popular, 24-year old heartthrob, is among those personalities trying his hand at pop.  Previously, the actor and YouTuber released a pop-rap single, “She Bad”, featuring SJ3.  This go-round, Dallas is more melodic on the sexy, yet innocent single, “Why Haven’t I Met You?”

In regards to vocals, Cameron Dallas doesn’t have a bad voice by any means.  His approach is breathy, singing low-key in an undertone. Given the sexy vibes of “Why Haven’t I Met You?”, the results are successful.  Further strengthening his cause is solid production work, in the urban-pop/urban contemporary vein.  The soulful guitars, mixed with tasteful synths works without a hitch.  The beat is relatively conservative, yet a nice fit, particularly being reserved for the pre-chorus and chorus sections. If one needs comparison point regarding artistic persona, Dallas definitely rivals Justin Bieber’s sound ala Purpose, 2015.

Final Thoughts

While “Why Haven’t I Met You?” Is by no means the most exciting pop record one’s ears will be privy to in 2018, Dallas manages to check off the boxes that he needs to and there’s definitely something here.  The record is simple, but effective overall.  Perhaps the biggest rub is that Dallas hasn’t established his own unique sound artistically.  While there’s nothing wrong with sounding like Justin Bieber by any means, if he is serious about being a musician, he needs to carve out his own path.  That can be difficult in a saturated urban-pop field.
