Calboa Treats Us To An Indie Treat With ‘Old Flame’
Contributed by George James
“Old Flame” by Calboa is one of those songs that blasts through the speakers like a shattered bulb. It’s a summer indie anthem that’s already proving to be a hit with both his long-time fans and new listeners.
The route by Calboa is similar to the path taken previously. However, he adds a distinct edge to the mix, and his continual desire to distinguish himself pays off in the form of a special aura. Compared to earlier releases, which are generally extremely strong in vocal effect, Calboa exposes more of his own tone vocally. However, his raw quality shows through, giving him the indie depth that fans of the genre adore.
There are numerous musical highlights, beginning with a crunchy guitar beat that sets the tone for the rest of the record. It also has a similar sound to The Paddingtons, another Hull band. A Libertines flavour emerges from the mix as well, although Calboa infuses his influence with current zeal. The pace also keeps the energy flowing, with the music reaching a boiling point with a captivating hook in the refrain.
The multitude of noises within the mix make this tune the unique gem that it is. Furthermore, as the guitar and bass propel the song ahead, a glockenspiel adds to the soundscape and pierces the emotions with its pastel touch.
