Burna Boy, "Kilometre" [📷: Atlantic]Grammy-winning Nigerian rapper/singer Burna Boy brings the heat on his ‘mileage-driven’ single, “Kilometre,” produced by Chopstix.

“Kilome, kilome, kilometres!”  🏆 Grammy winning Nigerian rapper/singer 🎙 Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu) has returned with a hot new single.  🎵 “Kilometre” runs just over two-and-a-half-minutes in duration but man, oh man, is that two-and-a-half-minutes a total vibe! “Kilometre” was produced by 🎛 Chopstix.  Safe to say, Chopstix definitely gives Ogulu a sick backdrop to work with. “This time, I call Chopstix for assistance,” Burna asserts on the first verse.

There’s plenty to totally rave about “Kilometre.” Let’s just begin with the production, shall we? The groove is potent, the sound is colorful and definitely idiomatic of global music.  This provides Burna Boy with fuel for the fire.  That said, Burna is on autopilot from the start, beginning with a hella infectious chorus that will stick in your head for days and days.  Of course, it’s catchier heard by the ears than say, read on the page.  On the verses, Burna is also on fire, performing in his native dialect, dropping some sensational bars.  Even with the distinct differences “Kilometre” may have compared to an American pop or rap song, there are some bars that truly hit hard and resonate throughout:

“People think I be Johnny just come
Like I just got rich, like my money just come
Send them back to where they come from
For talking like the product of a torn condom.”

Woo!

Final Thoughts 💭

From the opening tip, “Kilometre” is a total bop.  It’s well-produced by Chopstix.  Furthermore, it’s well-written and performed by Burna Boy.  Truly talented, Burna is an African Giant.
