Welsh rock band Bullet for My Valentine returns in ferocious fashion on “Over It,” their first new single since 2016.
“You want a battle? Here’s a War!” They’re back – Bullet for My Valentine that is! We last heard from the rockers on their 2015 album, Venom, where the aforementioned song hails from. “Over It” marks their first new single since 2016 and obviously, their first new single of 2018. The results are excellent.
“Over It” sounds ‘turned-up’ from the jump thanks to the jagged guitars and being set in minor key. Ultimately, it’s a heavenly, hellish mood. Matthew Tuck delivers aggressive vocals, particularly on the chorus. There’s also that fantastic, uncharacteristic screamed phrase on the second verse. Backing up, what’s the theme of “Over It?” On the first verse, Tuck criticizes the subject of the song for their failure to recognize and fix issues.
“After all this time
You still couldn’t recognize
That your problem lies within
In a vicious circle…
Why you’ve thrown it all away.”
On the second verse, the frontman continues to see the subject wasting their life.
“Watching you decline
What were you expecting
I can’t save you from yourself…”
The real heat comes on the chorus. It’s chocked-full of angst, serving as the centerpiece of this hard-rocking joint.
“I know it hurts
I tried to help to ease your pain
I know these words
They won’t mean anything
I hope it hurts
You’ve only got yourself to blame
And I can’t take this anymore
I’m over it
So over it.”
The bridge continues the hard-hitting, ‘hit you in your chest’ sentiment of the record, but also provides contrast. The final chorus adds in the screamed, ad-lib vocals, which is glorious!
